Hope I'm not asking too many questions on here, but I just found this forum and think it's one of the best forums I visit :P

So anyways, I'm just getting in to growing stuff, like Salvia and looking in to a couple of cacti. My question is though, when growing marijuana you want the plant to be female, correct? How do you tell the gender, and can you persuade it to go one way or the other?

Any replies will be greatly appreciated :D

Download the books here and you will learn how to do it . Basicaly you can tell by the shape of the plant and if you look at its "arm pits" with a magnifying glass you will see little pre flowers very early in the plants life .

Cannabis plants can change gender during vegetative growth according to soil or nutrient ph levels (higher equals male tendency), and the absence or abundance of the opposite gender. But generally, they are told by the general shape giving flexibility for strain traits, and usually the male gender shows earlier than the female when you switch to 12/12 light cycle, in the node region between the new head growth and the leaf growth from a junction point (aka gods 'armpit' description). They can also on occasion be hermaphrodites and have both male and female traits and flowers.

Generally, if you want to sex them early, just switch to 12/12 until the males show up then discard them and resume a more uneven or constant light cycle; or alternatively, put a small black sandwich bag over one of the nodes or heads for 12 hour periods each day until the branches show male or female characteristics, then discard the males.

If you want to bypass all this, just clone a healthy female before you bud the next time you grow or buy feminised seeds from an online seed bank.

Peace.

Ok, I think this is my last question I've been trying to Google most of them.
I just transplanted my best looking one out of 4 that sprouted and I am currently using an incandescent light, but that barely does anything. My question is, will a Black florescent light work to grow? Thanks guys!

No , not on its own . Growing is all about lumens , the more lumens / watts the better , and the spectrum , . Some people say that adding uv light to the other lights makes the plant stronger because the light at higher altitudes , where the plants are stronger , has more uv content than at lower altitudes .

Ok quick question for you guys that know what your doing :p
When I transplanted I put about 1.5inch of the bottom of the plant under soil, and so far it's been doing good untill about a day ago, I'm not sure what I did wrong, so here is some pictures.

If you look at the plant it seems like some of the leaves are curling up in to itself, is this because there is to much heat on it? There's also a bit of color distortion as it is a kind of red/brown tint.

Any idea's would be Greatly appreciated as this is my first try growing anything ever and I would LOVE to produce a plant. Thanks in advance! :D

Ok 3 points I want to make here:

1.Those are the some of the worst, most blurry photos of any plant I think i have seen in a long time, please, if you want good advice, take some better shots and repost.

2.Don’t, I repeat, don’t use aluminium foil for a reflective surface; it concentrates the light where it is crumpled and burns the plant where the higher concentrations hit the leaf surface. It is unnecessary regardless, just use a flat white surface or paint it white.

3.That growing medium/soil looks fowl mate. Go to your local garden shop, nursery or hardware store and buy some good potting mix.

Other than that, I would say the burnt ends of the uppermost leafs and overall pale colouration result from either the over concentration of light and heat hitting the plant and or over nutrition, especially at this early stage where there should be enough nutrients in the soil to sustain it until it’s a bit bigger.

I would re-pot into a container that is bigger, new soil, change the grow room so as that it doesn’t get too hot and the light reflection is not damaging the plant, and finaly, get a better light; as GOD said, the more lumens/watts the better.

Hope you succeed man, get proficient with your techniques and utensils and you’ll be all set, good luck.

Peace.

What pics ? where ?

"the bottom of the plant"

I hope by that you mean with the roots !!!???

G`day Buff , " Go to your local garden shop, nursery or hardware store and buy some good potting mix."

Buying soil at a kindergarten or a computer shop !?!?!?!? Ho! Ho! Ho!

Peas.

What the fuck !!! As soon as i posted my post the fuckers apeared from nowhere ??? Try to post some better ones please and maybe use nero photo snap , or something similar to make them smaller so that they fit on the page better .

Thanks so much for your responses guys, I think I over watered it, and burnt it with the light, I was also using an incandescent light so it wasn't getting hardly and lumen's either.
Sadly though, my my mom found my plant and ripped it out of the pot *cries*. I was trying to grow without spending a dime, but that would appear to not work lol.
So I'm out of the 'growing game' for a couple of months until my parents forget that I was growing a plant in my closet :P
