Psychedelic Films List - Add/Comment?

I recently as a miniature project began thinking of all the films I remember thinking would be good to watch or have been good to watch on acid or the like. Here is what I've got so far:

Probably missed heaps of great ones that I can't think of at this moment but please help discuss some other great classics to watch, even if they only make you feel like your on a trip

I recently tried to watch Yellow Submarine on acid, but it was way too much.. I had to remove it during the first 5 mins, because I felt I was gonna go insane..too much madness.

Honestly, now that I think of it..yes, alot of movies have relevance to psychedelic counterculture but to watch them on any psychedelics seems to be too much..So from now on, I'll stick to music and maybe documentaries during my trips..nothing too engaging, and I'll watch the movies with a joint!

If you wanna watch something on acid, I recommend:

Baraka (1992)
Koyaanisqatsi (1982)

Amazing cinematography.

PS: I guess you can still watch movies on small doses of psychedelics, as watching Other Worlds (2004), an ayahuasca documentary, was a really nice experience on 1 tab (~100-120cmgs) but on 2 tabs, Yellow Submarine ate my entire reality alive, and it was taking me somewhere I didn't want to go, a realm of madness![/url]

I would have to agree, I think I meant more along the lines of, each time I see this movie (probably high) I think to myself this would be good on a trip. However, I hardly ever (unless its only half I guess) watch or can watch a full movie. I do usually engage in interesting conversation or simply enjoy nature or a walk etc. So its more because I have tripped heaps and appreciate the cinematography or filming styles of the certain film : ) and it reminds me of the feeling. I'm sure this must be how you feel about some films??

There is no comic film in your list, except maybe Fear for Loathing but i watched it on acid with a friend and we found this movie more psychological than funny, I find that watch a comic movie is the best to do.

With the same friend, during a trip, we watched a french film "Tais-toi !" starring Gérard Depardieu and Jean Réno, and i've never laughed so much in front of a movie ! Yet it was my dvd and i've seen it several times, i was not discovering the film. It was the same for my friend, it was almost too much funny.

I find watching a funny movie is a good idea, that's what I prefer personnally (but I'm not closed-minded, I enjoyed watching Matrix or Pulp Fiction for example.)

It was about some Teenagers, goin thru school and were hippies lol.
They go to festivals n shit, and do acid...and sell acid or something.
The movie was pretty much crap,but id like to see it again for some reason.
ITS NOT DAZED AND CONFUSED lol.....

I watched HOME on my last trip (I had already watched it sober before) and I can tell you that apart from enjoying the cinematography, there isn't much there.. I was much more affected by it when sober. But the cinematography is still great.. some scenes were amazing, especially the ones with all the forests, animal herds..etc just shows you how much we're missing by living in our urban jungles.

So yeah.. I think that apart from "eye candy", you are not gonna get much out of a movie while on acid. At least for me. (I feel I can't focus on the movie to understand what happens, I'm just sitting there and enjoying the visuals..and music)

Same here, I don't think I'd be able to get the movie at all while tripping.

Though I think 'Home' might be quite cool, but I did already think about maybe editting the shots featuring humans/structures out of it and putting another soundtrack under it. Not that the currect one is bad, but because of the voice-over. I think these additions would make it a great trip movie.

I think the right time to watch a trippy movie is when you're coming down from a trip, but you can't sleep.

I watched Naked Lunch like that and it was awesome, also Brazil

A movie that I discovered a few days ago that should also be good for that purpose is The Colour of Magic.
It's a two-part movie after the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchet - very weird and funny!

I also like to watch Scrubs when coming down from mescaline. They always show some episodes on tv on Sundays from 12 to 4 - a good time to be watching after a mescaline trip. That's how I actually discovered how funny that show really is!
