Hey guys, I was just at my local store when I saw "pipe filters" and they are just filters that fit in the mouth peice of the pipe. My question is would I be losing any THC content through it?

any time you filter smoke you will lose some THC, the question is, what kind of filter is it, so how much will you lose. i.e. water pipes do not take anywhere near as much as lets say a cigarette filter used as a roach on some nice j. but thats because it doesnt bond to water as well as cotton.

to just say it simply, stick with water filter or no filter honestly. if anything just use metal screens.

" no filter honestly. if anything just use metal screens."

+ 1 .

That's what I was thinking, but I saw the box of pipe filters sitting there for a dollar/3packs and had to pick them up. :P
Thanks for input guys. :)

I must confess that i couldnt resist it either and bought some for my private drug museum . They looked so nice and lonely i had to free them from their captivity in my friends bong shop .

i found that the screens they use in faucets work well, i usually put em in the bowl

What are they made of ? Have they got a coating on them ? Do you heat them to red hot first ?

Even with pipe screens from a head shop one should do that just to be sure .

I remember not to long ago I went in to my local smoke shop to buy some screens, and I asked the guy if I needed to burn them red hot or not before I used them. He just looked at me like I was crazy.

Also, why are you gonna take a screen out of a facet when you can get like 50/$1? lol
GOD a dit:

All the screens that i have ever seen had a coating on them . Its common practice here to heat them to red hot first . It cant harm them either and safe is safe .

Here one gets 5 for that price !!!

What are pipe screens made of? I believe the faucet screens used in plumbing are stainless steel, while many pipe screens sold in headshops are often brass or gilded with brass (or at least look very much like they are)... Since brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, it's probably healthier to avoid inhaling copper oxyde and go for stainless steel... or a chillum.

I dont know but they are to hard and have to big holes in them . I have tried them out of desperation years ago and i wouldnt do it again . I`ll look next time i go to the builders market . Maybe someone else can help us identify what they are made of and if they have a coating .

The thing about zink is the reason that they are heated first here . They then change colour and the bits that werent heated enough dont .

Usually when you buy them they give you the choice of glass, brass, or steel. In my experiences atleast.

Faucet screens ?

we get all kinds down here, the glass ones are the newest of the pipe screens, they are nice, however i would advise using an ashcatcher where possible, and personally discourage using glass jacks in straight pipes as this can lead to some pretty nasty scooby snacks.

metal screens FTW, and yes it is always good to burn them red hot first, but do NOT dip them in water to cool them, this can instantly oxidize the metal and cause some nasty effects, especially if you happen to get the brass gilded ones. those are often nothing but zinc or nickel on the inside...

i just saw some weird ball looking screen things, they are little glass things that look similar to depth charges with those spiky pins on em, you drop them in your downstem instead of your bowl, odd..

"pretty nasty scooby snacks. "

Whats that ?

to answer yor guys questions...

GOD, im not exactly sure what they are made of but they are silver, so im pretty sure there stainless steel. threre is no coating on them, just bare ole metal. i never heated them up before i used them, whats it do anyway?

also i hear copper isnt too healty to use for smoking but i use a bowl made out of air hose fittings and it works fine but i wouldnt trust a copper screen

and you can pick up a variety of sizes, i have some that are tight knit and somewhat loose

Screens I use are kind of golden... I never heard of heating a screen until it's red hot before using it. Is it really nasty not to do it? What does it do if you don't? Now that I know it I'm gonna do it, but I always used screens without heating them a bit beforehand.

One could try heating the faucet screens and see if smoke / vapour comes off them and see how / if they smell when being heated . I know that the ones here taste shity . But its your health , if its not worth anything to you thats your thing .

I wonder why head shops dont sell faucet screens ?

well they taste fine and no smoke/vapor comes off of them, and there is no smell to it :?

Honestly, if you go through a lot of screens it's just a good easy habbit to get in to, to just hold them under a lighter for maybe 30seconds. It allows any chemicals or anything like that to get burnt off.
