PF cakes won't fruit!

I have six Psilocybe mexicana PF cakes. They was made with the standard PF tek and I could see colonization starting after 3 days of innoculation. They were in an dark incubator at 27 C, and two weeks ago they looked fully colonized.
Then I turned of heat in the incubator and removed the cover so they were exposed to light, but I still kept them in the glasses so as not to dry them out.

I wonder, should they not be pinning by now :?:

I am not sure what to do from here, put them in the fruiting chamber or back in the warm incubator :?

Is the colour of the growth in that glass pure white ? It doesnt look like it to me but that could be the picture ?

Youve dropped the temperature from the incubator ? How much is the temperature now ? If the myceleum is pure white the temperature is the problem .

Yes it's pure white, picture is a little off. Now it is room temperature, ~around 20, but it's on the floor so maybe it's even colder than that.

So warm it up . Maybe on top of a cupboard is a good idea .

With Cubensis you havent got to change the temperature to get it to fruit .

Thank a lot GOD, will do that. They are now decorating my livingroom cupboard :) Will keep you posted on the progress.

OK . I just made a big mistake . You are talking about mexicana and i was talking about cubensis . With mexicana the spawn run temperature should be 75 - 81 °F and the fruiting run should be 71 - 74 °F . At least acording to stamets and chilton .

Erm... Maybe I made a mistake instead... The strain of spores I got was called Mexican Cubensis and not Psilocybe mexicana. Is that different?

Yup . Psilocybe mexicana is not Psilocybe cubensis . You have cubensis so do the cupboard thing and measure the temperature to make sure its warm enough . But they should be in a big enough container so that the opened glasses can fruit and the container should have some sort of lid so that you can keep humidity in . Maybe you will have to put some wet sand or perlite in the bottom so it evaporates and keeps the humidity up . Open it several times a day to get rid of excess water / humidity and let air in and CO2 out .

So no one thinks this is a humidity problem? If your pf jar is fully colonized you just need to provide mother natures trigger to fruit, just artificially.

Get a plastic storage bin, clean it w/ soapy anti-bacterial dish soap (ajax is cheap), wipe off all excess water and soap bubbles, lay a 2"-3" layer of hydrated perlite in the bottom. Turn u're pf cakes upside down and bang then on the counter to get the chunk out of the jar, place in your bin, use the metal lid as a buffer from the perlite, place lid on top of box, cut a hole on the top and use plexi glass and silicon to seal it to the lid to close the open space or use seranwrap if u're broke. Now humidity isn't a problem now, take the top off and fan it atleast 2x a day to get rid of built up CO2.

Pinning should start in a week and harvest by 2 weeks.

I forgot to mention, they will need light to fruit. I use one of the energy efficient mini flouresent bulbs (the ones that use 1/3 the watts as a regular incidescent light bulb) and all the research I have done says its the best most cost efficient and effective lighting platform for mushie fruiting.

Should do no more that 12 on 12 off. But there is a lot of flexibility in the range, I'd go with no less that 8 on a day just to ensure there is no bottom pinning and not full on aborting.

All this info is purely research, I have most no hands on experience with 'magic' mushrooms. I don't grow them, just used em a lot in high school and college.

Yes I did plan on using a fruiting chamber. I got some nice transparent plastic boxes and will use wet Perlite.
Won't use extra lighting, but will keep the fruiting boxes on the cupboard at the livingroom window.
Kind of like the idea of still keeping the cakes in the jars so as not to expose them to the elements before it is really nessecary. There is plenty moisture in the jars.

Did not meassure temp, but my floor is COLD! It is middle of winter here and conditions are harse. Think the cakes went into stasis because of the low temps. Let's see what a few days in the much friendlier temperature zone around the cupboard will do 8)

Well so far there isnt much change. I didnt wanna say this earlier, but I actually was a little low on brown rice flour so I might have streched it a bit... as in that the six cakes only contain enough BRF for four cakes. Oh well, I'm just gonne sit here and wait for GOD to come chew my head of :(

Why should i chew your head off ?

"So no one thinks this is a humidity problem? "

No . And the rest you said has already been explained .

12 off and 12 on what difference should that make . The light only shows them wich way is up .

" I'd go with no less that 8 on a day just to ensure there is no bottom pinning and not full on aborting. "

? Please explain ?

Stop worrying . Just have patience and wait and see what happens for a month .
