Peyote upkeep

Hello,
I just reciently transplanted my 10 month old baby peyote cactus into new soil , and a clay pot now. In the last week, its size has increased a lot. I'm very suprised, and I was wondering if I should give it more water since it seems to be expanding at an rapid rate. Its the height of summer where I live and the sun is at its strongest also. Also should I bottom water so the pot stays saturated for a little long, or top water with a spray bottle so the water passes threw fast and there is no chance of root rot.

Spray it cause this cacti doesn't have strong roots. And keep it out of sun from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Keep it out of the sun from 11am-4pm??? thats pretty well the only time the sun is strong, plus my peyote is not dark green, it is really light, which I think means not enough sun??

Peyote is rare cause it grows in young stage and afterward in 60% shade. Hot sun can burn and suck all of cacti water in couple of hours. Look where in nature this cacti grows. OK hard European sun is not enough hard but some years it is! Young cacti can easy get sunburns and die or be defected!

I'm in Canada, the sun isn't too hard, and if it got sunburnt, wouldn't it turn red if im not mistaken?

Yes, and then brown and than dark colour and after that yours cacti is gumish waste. You can give him some sun, but do not over expose it.

Hey people,im new here and was just wondering,do i need sum sort of light to grow peyote in the UK,being as winter is coming i thought that the cactus might suffer in the cold?

You should let the substrate dry before giving it water again . Water it from the top . Put it somewhere very light but not somewhere in direct sun . It likes to be warm and then it grows better . In the winter it likes to have a dormant periode , away from draughts at about 12 - 15c , and dont water it .

If its still outside in england now it would be better to bring it in and put it somewhere relitavly constant like on a bedroom windowcill where it is as light as posible . And dont water it again till it starts to get warm in / or at the end of spring when you can / should put it outside again .

iv never eaten cacti,but id like to know what you think is the best method to do it is,cos everyone i know who has say,they have puked for ages.Is there any way of minimising the nausea?

If you cut the green head of with a very sharp knife the rest will / might grow another head , or heads . Dry the top and cut it up as small as posible and then mix it with water an cook it for a few minutes . Sieve it off and mix more water to it and cook it again for a few minutes and sieve it again and mix the two liquids together . If you need to , boil it gently down a bit to reduce the size that you will have to drink . It tastes realy shity . A dose is 4 to 30 dried heads = buttons . You get a strong trip with 200 to 500mg of mescalin . 300mg mescalin is about 27 grams dry weight of buttons . Do it on an empty stomach and expect to puke . Puking is normal after eating buttons . Its not like puking your guts up as with alcohol , its more of a stomach cleaning sort of wet burping , and you should not think of it as bad , enjoy it . So you will need a bucket and a towel near you .
