peyote stretching for sun

my peyote that i am growing is only 5 months old, but i live in canada and i can clearly see that it is stretching for sun and i was wondering if that affects mescaline content or it affect harvesting it when it is finally ready. would u have to cut still at soil level, or where it becomes fat ? thanks
