well, if growing mushrooms is a matter of higien, cleen hands and steril conditions,
growing cacti is a matter of time, waiting and patience.Especialy if growing Lophophora.
growing any cactus from seeds is realy not easy.
Peyote is the one that grows most slowly, and taking care over it is more difficult than any other cactus, exept the Ariokarpus maybe.
The cacti, grown from seeds contains less chemicals than the cacti grown from clones, and buttons from old specimens contains much more than same size young ones.
I have oly 3 years expirience of growing cacti, and I still do not feel expirienced enough to try growing Lophophora, so my advise can be wrong,
but try to grow someTrichocereus, Opuntia,Echinopsis,Myrtilocactus or Gymnocalycium before trying to take care over caprisious and precious Peyotes(Lophophora)
to gain some background growing-cacti expirience.
If you already know how to grow cacti, then start, and after 5-15 years you will have mature specimens, which give good butons anualy.
Growing Trichocereus peruvianus( Peruvian torch) and Trichocereus pachanoi
(San Pedro) is much faster and more easy, and thay contains usualy just a little less(and sometimes even a little more) mescaline and other psichoactive chemicals than the Lophophora does.
