im a newb to this, and i just recently ordered some panaeolus cyanescan spores. im wondering, was this a bad idea since im so inexperienced? ive read a few teks and the one ill be referencing is "PF-Tek for simple minds" from the shroomery.

If you use grain , not rice and case with a peat / chalk mixture , or jiffy earth , and keep it all at about 23°C you will have a good chance .

welcome appreciated, as i will hopefully stay a while after recently being introduced to the wonderful world of psychadelics. what is the best grain substrate recipe? and are the chances significantly altered by choice of substrate?

I have had only had sucess with this mushroom using rye from a health store . The mixture was 120 g rye + 180 ml water + a half tea spoon of plaster ( sorry i have translated plaster from the german "gips" ) in a half liter straight sided jar with no shoulders = the hole was exactly the same size as the sides so you can get the grown through myceleum block out . That got sterilised with a piece of silver foil over the top and the lid placed upside down on the top and sterilised in a preasure cooker for 2 hours at the highest preasure setting . Other people do it for 1 hour but i`d rather be safe than sorry .

Rye and barley are the only two grains I've seen Pan cyans fruit on without any manure added.

I think "gibs"/plaster might be gypsum?

I agree about the pressure cooking, I always set my timer for 90 mins. 1 hour isn't long enough to properly sterilize grains.

My rule of pressure cooking is:
Grains/Grass Seed/Manure - 1 1/2 to 2 hours
PF Jars - 45 mins
Liquid Culture Jars - 30 mins
Agar - 20 - 25 mins
Casing Mixtures - 30 mins
