hey guys, just wanted to post that i planted about 150 peruvian torch M. about a week ago, and they are just starting to sprout! just by the few that have sprouted, i can tell they are going grow like mad.. (can already tell the difference between the peruvian after germination, and the peyote after germination)

ahh i cant wait to get these going. any advice?

yup... i have a total of 3 cacti out of 150 seeds... i contacted the seller and he told me a few things i could do to help them germinate, then said hed send me another 75 for free. (he guarenteed 90% would germinate) so, hopfully i get more coming up! the ones that have sprouted are looking very good. 2 of them have 2 spines starting to come out already.

btw, the species is Trichocereus peruvians "Matucana". i was told that this is suposed to be a "hybrid" species of peruvian torch. ill get some pics of them growing (if you guys want to see them).

Echinopsis cacti needs 4cm of free space between other seeds-plants-sprouts.
This is reason why Torch are dieing and only 10% succeeds.
Also people thinks if germination is so successful that rest of growing life will be also! HELL NO!!!!
If U have very near cacti to cacti sprouting, after some time (when cacti stops his ultra rapid growth) replant it to new pot-large pan. Watch on cacti roots! Always use small spoon and "pick" up soil with sprout and place it in bigger pot-pan.
Can U do it? Then U need to do something else but before that, wait.
P.S, don't pick every cacti out of first pot! Use little, 10%, see how are U doing, how cacti will hold on after such shock.

thanks! yeah, 10% of the seeds havent even germinated so far. i have them in a very moise area, with plastic wrap over the top with an elastic keeping it sealed. i take the plastic wrap off for a few min every day. they are getting quite a bit of light, (same as my peyote) so i figure thats not too much, or is it?) i told the guy i got them off of that id message him in another week.

btw, they usually stay at a temp around 70-75.

Open it at least three times a day for 5 minutes or you will probably get contamination . They shouldnt get any direct sun at all . The temperature should be about 26°C .

God has told U some info. When cacti builds up remove plastic layer three times per day or just remove it. Of course get cacti away from the sun and low moist level.
Echinopsis are hardy cacti. So U do not need to watch and take so much care of them like Peyos ones.

so should i keep the plasic on? does it help? they are on a west side window, they get mayyyyyybe 15 min of sun. (we have big trees in the back that block almost all direct sunlight)

i really dont know why these arent germinating...

Either because the seeds wont germinate or more probably because they are not warm enough . Put the temperature up and see what happens .

Some seeds are aborts. Just like shrooms in flushing period.
If your cacti are 4milimeters in diameter or more foil isn't essential need anymore, so U can remove it. U need to see that your cacti has stopped their rapid development. Then cacti starts to build up roots cause body is formed. Free minded remove plastic lids.
