Do they exist ? What are they ? How are they produced ? Have you ever had one ? Would you please tell us about it if you have had one ? Was it pleasant or frightening ? Do you know anyone whos had one ? Did it change your / their life ? If so did it change it for the good or the bad ? How would you compaire it to other experiences you have had in your life ?

I don't know anyone that have experienced a NDE, but I know that the most famouse and weird case is Pamela Reynold's one, ever heard about it ?

Pam Reynolds (stage name) from Atlanta, Georgia is an American singer-songwriter. In 1991, at the age of 35, she had a near-death experience (NDE) during a brain operation. Her NDE is one of the most notable and best documented in NDE research because of the unusual circumstances under which it happened. Reynolds was under close medical monitoring during the entire operation. During part of the operation she had no brain-wave activity and no blood flowing in her brain, which left her clinically dead. She made several observations about the procedure which later were confirmed by medical personnel as surprisingly accurate.

During the operation but prior to her being put in cardiac arrest, Reynolds later reports hearing a sound like a natural 'D'. The sound seems to pull her out of her body. Then she is floating around in the operating room and watches the doctors performing the operation. She feels more aware than normal and her vision is more focused and clearer than normal vision. She makes several observations, for example:
She notices the doctor using a drill to open her skull. It surprises her that it looks like an electric toothbrush, not like a saw as she expects. It is later confirmed that the drill used by the doctor was similar in appearance to an electric toothbrush.
She hears a female voice say, "We have a problem. Her arteries are too small." It is later confirmed that the doctors first tried to connect the heart-lung machine to the right leg. But the arteries are too small so they switch to the left leg.

These examples appear to show that she was able to see and hear during the operation.

What do you mean by near death experience? If you mean the one induced with drugs like ketamine of PCP, I don't think we really can call it a near death experience, cause you are nowhere near death. It is only an extreme dissociated state when you're just about to fall asleep.

Real near death experiences, in my opinion, are the ones where you really come close to death, when you are lucky to still be alive. For example, when you are clinically dead but you get reanimed by a defibrillator.

I never had any experience like this, neither do I know someone who did, so I can't answer your questions.

I've read (well,third hand info obviously) that during a NDE, a man (the patient) saw himself from above. The supposed evidence that that was not a hallucination/ work of the drugs (that are sometimes indicated as the reason for NDEs, i mean the injected stuff by the docs) was that during the OP, the docs removed a prothesis of him and after the Operation the man remembered where it was, although he was in a NDE and "saw himself from above". But who knows if that story is true after all?

However... NDE and DMT and Ketamine trips are amazingly similar, maybe when we are about to die, the brain generates some molecules similar to Ketamine/DMT/ or other drugs ...

Thanks a lot . I think shes the lady i was talking about . I`ve seen several TV programs with her and about her . I`ve also seen and heard other reports like hers , but i`ve also heard at least one report that was more detailed , clearer and much deeper allthough it isnt documented and doesnt claim to offer any proof .

Experiences where people claim to have left their body in the operating theater happen to about 1 in 5000 people . I think most of them are easily explainable . The thing that realy interests me is not the room or the people in it its the leaving , the way and the end experience .

"Why dont people who have near death experiences report any come up or come down ? The reported experiences bear no resemblance to DMT or other drug experiences . Why is there no confusion , no personality loss and no losss of clarity" .

I don't think this counts as a NDE, but it certainly had a great impact on me.
I've never experienced anything like this till this day.

A couple of months ago I had a weird dream
I have a map in wich I intended to write down my dreams before I forget them, but today there's still almost nothing in it except for this dream (I'm just too lazy I guess), but even if I wouldn't have written it down I still would have remembered it this clear I think.
This is the report as in my map:

I had a lot of dreams this night, but only one caught my intention, it was a very strange dream.
I dreamed that I died.
I was lying in my bed in the previous house that we lived in when I died.
The dream began with that I died, cause unknown and unimportant.
My soul, my perception and my emotions floated from out of my head to above myself slowly and reality/consciousness ebgan to change.
My soul began forging together with the bigger whole, it felt epic, unique and pretty much indiscribable.
As if I was becoming one with everything.
During this process at some time I became scared.
I don't know why because it felt so good and perfect.
And because I was scared it stopped.
I then floated around there above my body for some time, back to my 'normal self' again but then as a floating soul out of a recently died body.
'They' had let me go..
I don't know if the dream ended there but I suppose it did cause I couldn't remember there being any more.
Also, the dream was very 'lucid' and it felt very real.
The days after I had this dream, perhaps even weeks I had it in my head.
What did this mean to me? How should I take this? Does it mean I should realize that I should live today, for the end may be tomorrow? Or that I don't need to fear death and that it's more beautiful then I could ever imagine?
Or both?
I don't think this experience has made a huge impact and change in my life, but perhaps it has.. subconsciously.

Because this are two different things. Even if (and I say If) DMT produced by the brain has something to do with it, it's not the same as injected DMT.
It's a whole different story.

In talking about NDE you have to make a distinction between people who have been clinically dead, and people who didn't.
There are a lot of people who had experienced of dying while unconsciousness, but who where never where clinically dead. These people report going to heaven, a white light, tunnel etcetera.

Then you have these people who hearts stopped long enough be actually dead, and got back to life.
These people report the same story's.

I liked what you said Bastiaan and i think its relevant to the thread , thanks . You had a spiritual experience that had an effect on you and it lasted . Thats why i want to talk about things like near death experiences , ego death and enlightenment , because most people seem to be talking about it and have never experienced it . I get the impression sometimes that people think its for saints and holy people and rule themselves out . I want people to know its inside all of us and its possible for all of us to experience it without dieing . All we have to do is to understand that and have the courage to look for it . We dont neeed churches , shaman , leaders , books , stars , days or uniforms .


Magicmumu , DMT is DMT . The efects are the efects of DMT . It works on the receptors it works on and they either get enough to trigger a DMT experience or not .

I agree . Whats clinicly dead and who is to say one person or another was clinicaly dead or not ? We cant even say if a brain dead person is realy dead . Just because we keep his bodily functions going doesnt mean that his "I" hasnt died and had a death experience .

The things you say about tunnels , white light and going to heaven have been experienced by people dreaming , people who have consumed drugs and people who have meditated as well as people who have been said to be clinicly dead .

So i think its better to say its an experience that anyone can have and not to believe its something special and unreachable .

once i nearly drowned while caught in mono filament fishing net under water. my diving knife, usually used to cut net, was strapped to my ankle and was completely entangled, along with the buckles on my fins so i couldnt use it. this happened in a river where 4 of us, ironically enough were acting as life guards during a public event. the net was never mentioned in the planning of the event. anyway i had to be rescued by my "buddy". i owe my life to him. he died in a diving accident a year or so later. no "strange light" or anything, just a gentle slip into oblivion (you learn not to panic through diving)

second time, another diving accident which ruptured a lung, gave me permanent sinus damage and a burst eardrum. no funny lights just a shit load of pain and blood.

third time severe hypothermia (ive been there a few times) where i was barely conscious and just aware enough to crawl into a sleeping bag and hope i had enough body heat to survive. i was unconscious a minute later although i tried to stay awake. i was well past the point where you stop shivering and as anyone who knows hypothermia will tell you thats the point were you are effectively dead. no funny lights, i just didnt feel warm for a couple of weeks after

did it change my attitude on life. for a while, you soon slip back into old habits though.

Maybe you were still near enough to life that your brain hadent decided it was time to go . Maybe one has to loose consciousness more before it starts .

I can understand the pain you got in your ear , my dad hit me with a cupped hand on my left ear and did the same . The pain is nearly unbearable , and worse you cant do anything about it . I`ve also had hypothermia . It burnt all the brown fat from round my organs so i dont have any anymore = if i get cold it hurts like fuck and i have to find someone fat QUICK and sit on their laps and get hugged or i will die . It can cause big confusion at partys .

Do a K-hole. The first time you assume you've done nothing else than ingesting yourself a fatal dose of opiods or benzo's.

Temporarly coma states are possible with GHB, there's only activity in the middle of your head. It is possible to induce this safely. You'll have to bump extremly careful on a peak dose. Let's say 0.25 up to 0.50 ml.
