Music Section??

Would it be a good idea to start a new section for music only?

As music now is spread across various sections (General Psychonautics, Art & Philosophy, Lounge, Watch that video…) it is not always easy to find threads back. And for most of us, music plays an important role in our lives.

But maybe it is just me??

what about a dirty back-alley chinese CD store section? I saw it another forum, they upload music to rapidshare and thelike and share it. honestly I don't know about the legal stuff.. but the forum is fairly big (hosted in the US, if that is of interest)
just a thought. but I guess it won't happen anyway - for good reason. but who knows, maybe the idea will have some followers.

I don't like the idea of filesharing. People here are smart enough to find what they need and if they can't find it, they can ask around...

I don't see the need. Threads consisting of YouTube music videos should be placed in the Watch That Video section, not in Lounge or General Psychonautics. The reason why the 'Music Association' thread appeared in the Lounge section is probably because it was meant as a game, not to share psychonautic video material.

Everything can be placed here that has no place in the other topics, lucid dreaming, combinations of psychedelics, you name it , its here.

Lounge
Off topic discussion. Everything else can go in here: stories about your dog, the weather, your personal problems, etcetera...

A few days ago Libertine started a thread in the 'Watch that video" section, specifically for posting psychedelic music videos from the '60s and '70s, following some threads I had started for The Beatles, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Pink Floyd, funk and Stonerrock.

As far as file sharing is concerned, I agree with Forkbender.

There's loads of sites that legally (!!!) offer free music... That's not like filsharing like warez or so. It's just giving people the oppurtunity to legally download & explore new kinds of music

Most of the legal free music sites, are with promo-albums etc. So it's promotion for the artists or recordlabels. I don't see anything bad about that.



And; actually music should be posted in "Art & Philosophy", cause music is art

Well, there is shit hop, like you call it, and there's good hiphop (hard to find, but there really is good hiphop, with philosophical texts.. not just about "bling bling" or how "gangsta" they are cause they kill white people...)


And what i also want to say: The cd's that you can download for free are or promo-albums, or made by non-profit musicians, who don't care about money. Their music is most of the time real art, cause they dare to do new things. Not just the same old melody, or the same old song, they make special songs, in which they put personal feelings...

I`m sure no one has anything against adresses for free music but offering copyrighted music isnt an option .

What sort of music do you make and what do you want to make adverts for ?

it is simply not possible to upload "legal" music directly to psychonaut, we would need a special server for the music = even more money spent. But you can surely make a separate threat resp. there are already people that posted links to free music (was it you? )CM: I still find it confusing as the music is spread to three different forums. IMHO it would be really comfortable if we could change the subtitle of one to "And music" so that if I look for good psychonaut music that I can get a concentrated search on it.

Though I agree music is art, when I read "art & philosophy" I'm expecting to find paintings and photography there, not music.
