Hey folks! I'm quite the newbie (this is only my second post), but I am interested in what kinds of mediation methods work best for you all (while tripping or not)?

If this topic has already been covered, I would appreciate a link, as I do not want to clutter up the board.

Thanks and hello :D !

I like simple techniques, especially a form of mindfullness. Just be aware of everything that comes up. Try to become aware of the moment you get carried away by anything as soon as possible and return to being aware, not identifying with whatever happens.

And on psychedelics I really like dancing meditation.

first, breathing steadily...close your eyes and just listen to everything. don't try to imagine what is making the sound, just listen to everything and silence your inner voice. stop all that thinking.
then, let yourself go and see where you might go. don't question and don't think, just let it be. in this stage it is easy to fall in a state similar to sleep, keep yourself awake, and you'll get some visuals (i do), mainly varying degrees of brightness (pitch black to grey, so on)...i haven't got any further, and i am doing it for almost two years...good luck!
if any of you guys has more informations, share it so we could all learn more!

there are many different methods, I think. I like to lie in bed and breathe through my nose in way so that I can't hear my breathing. strangely, the first time I did this, I really "slipped" away. I was consciouss but I kind of left my body. but then I was really surprised what was happening and it ended... I've not succeeded to go there again...

often when I play with my pois I would just close my eyes and concetrate on the curves the balls are flying. it's quite medidative too, at least for me. nothing to go really deep, but nonetheless.

i prefer chinese standing zen as it has a strong physical element to it. it involves standing with arms outstreached in a zombi fashion, feet shoulder width apart and knees slightly bent, breathing very deeply and slowly through the nose while focusing the mind on a point 3 finger widths below the navel and the same inwards (tan tien). its uncomfortable when you first start out but with practice produces full body mind relaxation and calming of the inner dialogue that lasts all day. allowing the mind to drift to the tan tien can then be done at any time removing stress in almost any situation. its also the basis of tai chi and qigung. you do look silly while practicing though 8)

Thanks for all the tips guys! I'll be sure to try them out!

Peace!

Serious, every walk you take is heavenly :D

i totally agree with Forkbender's post. being mindfully aware is amazing. it can save you from any bad trip if you do it right. it prevents you from getting sucked into the tornado of thoughts and keeps you seated in the "eye" or hurricane where everything is clear(decent analogy i guess). i highly recommend it.

Depends on what you want to achieve.

There is mindful meditation, which helps you come in contact with your internal dialogue and emotions and/or senses, depending what you look for and what you do while doing it.

There is mantra, which apparently gives you lasting feelings of joy after.

There is the 'clear the mind' and block out senses which is useful for astral projection. Apparently, so is the concentration on your chakras.

:P What do you want?

aaaaaaallll

Can you explain? Maybe I do it instinctively cause any walk I take is heavenly :P Especially if I smoked cannabis and am listening to good music ^^

yeah there are many many methods.. most will involve clearing your mind of external thought processes, like for example random thought, relative thought, (like your had an arguement with your gf), and then refocus your attention fully onto whatever it is you want to meditate.

examples include an ambient noise, or perhaps an internal one, like breathing, or the rythym of your heartbeat, as well as your chakras too. or you can focus on a series of words(a mantra), or a picture in your mind, or... you get it? the whole idea is to grasp ahold of that internal voice that you have, and be able to listen to it, silence it, guide it, have total control of your focus as if it were as easy as holding and moving a ball with your hand.

this control is achieved through prolonged mindfullness of your own mind, get it? if you wander off and start randomly thinking again, you must realize this as soon as you can and take control of your thought process again, refocusing on whatever it was that you were before.. an analogy to describe it would be converting your mind from an automatic car to a manual stick shift. in this sense you are cognizant and directly in control of all of your thought, focus, perception, etc. how that benifits you is what you have to figure out

^ I don't think one is ever able to 'clear one's mind'. Clearing it seems like a willful act, instead of just letting it happen. It is like the often heard analogy of a lake, with waves and streams. When there is no external input, at some time the waves will subside and the streams will come to a still. You, as being aware of that blissful state of stillness, do not have to DO anything in order to make the lake still, because every act will disrupt this stillness even more.

The goal in meditation to me is not to gain control, although that is a dangerous side-effect of it, but to let loose and dissolve the ego to such an extent that you are filled from the eternal bliss dormant within you and subdued by the ego.

Peace,
Fork.

right, nobody can just clear their mind. but that is what meditation does though, by realizing that constant, (whatever you meditate upon), you KNOW that your attention is directed there and nowhere else, but when you actually think that "my attention is here", your attention has been drawn away, because your internal voice came back for just a second to say "hey, this is what you are looking at/thinking/hearing, in case you didn't know"..

it's hard to imagine unless it has been properly explained by someone who teaches meditation.

I see what you guys mean about quieting my inner voice, thanks for all the advice. Recently i've become interested in the chakras, specifically the ajna chakra. Would a quiet, mindful meditation be best for concentrating on the chakras? or using mantras?

i think that a quiet and mindful meditation would be more beneficial if it can be done properly, but a mantra such as om would definitely still work and might be a little easier to focus on at first if you are finding it hard to maintain your focus that day. every day is different for your mind though, its all about finding what will work best for you at a certain point in time

Try searching information on kundalini yoga and
vipassana meditation. Hatha-yoga is also very good.

strangely mantras help quiet the mind. the bit of the mind thats normally babbling is busy with the mantra. choose your mantra well though
