Hello all,

I just thought of an idea and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. I was thinking on making my own drum and/or other instruments. I would make them very simple, so they require no talent, and all I can do is make musical notes while immersed into a deep experience. I would want it to be mid summer, and I would go into nature at night, build a nice fire, with a few friends, and just bang on a drum all night. Does anything think this would be good or have any experience trying this?

PEACE & LOVE

Making music with friends is great enough, but the depth of a shared experience playing instruments with friends while tripping is just.. sublime :D And yes, I do it whenever I can, making music or even playing instruments is like probably my favorite thing to do on psychedelics. Occasionally on drums, a few times I've been lucky enough to find jam bands....

The only caveat I can provide is hopefully whomever you invite is comfortable joining in already (without psychedelics), much like any group activity while tripping you can easily feel out of place and isolated if you don't fit in. Also the kind of music you are playing affects the trip as well (not good or bad, just different.) eg, rhyhmic, percussive, shamanistic trance-inducing drumming as opposed to making sensual, synesthesic ambient textures and tones..

Oh yeah, percussion tuned to musical notes, well let's see:

marimba (wooden xylophone)..
tuned wood blocks
kalimba/thumb piano
also tunable djembe or other tunable hand percussion.. get some nice lower tones..
bells.. shop around for chimes, chimes==cheap and readily available tuned bells!
may i also suggest shakers for crackly synesthesic warmth (and easy to play) :D

i'm certain there will be others with more ideas.. :D

I really love this, i havent done it for quite some time, but i remember the time that i played on my guitar high on shrooms it was just amazing.
You've got all the time when you're planning to put your next tone/note and they all sound perfect, your the music itself and way more connected.
no wonder that Hendrix played on lsd

I think next time ill gonna kick some bizzare tunes out of my computer,
by making a basic loop (when i'm sober) distorted it, and when trippin try to put a melody in the noise on a keyboard.

Once while drumming on shrooms it felt like my hands were no longer free but were riding these invisible shapes/grooves.. rising up and falling down.. as if the shapes/grooves were already laid out in time and I was merely feeling them, touching them. It was like the shrooms had pulled me temporarily into perfect rhythm.

Exactly, free for improvisations but always in perfect rhythm.
