Ok, here it goes. I'm typing this off my PDA so forgive my grammer/spelling.

I am planning on birthing a few flushes of golden teachers in the very near future (when the syringe comes in). I just want to make sure I have the whole process down;

I plan to use BRF cakes and a 50/50 casing w/ a 12 soak after full colinization. My understanding is this:

Colonize a 1/2 pint mason jar w/ spores and sterile substrate (BRF) and a layer of sterile verm. Cover w/ breathable tape or aluminum foil. Place in dark place, wait ~20 days.

Prepare casing. This is where I am unsure;

Soaked layer of 50/50 down, place cakes (shooken up a little in jar) over casing layer w/ dry verm on top.

Is this the basic idea? Any help would be great. I'll also add more l8tr on when I'm on my laptop.

Thanks all.

Looks pretty good to me. Not sure about the casing as I have never done. But make sure you sterilize your substrate before you inject the spores into your substrate. If you do not, the heat will kill the spores. Also sometimes it is not exactly 20 days. What I suggest is just watching the cake, and wait until the whole jar is white, and then wait a week before taking it out. Also be on the look out for contamination, and if you find some in one of your jars, throw that contaminated jar out! If you have any questions during the process, fell free to ask.

Quick question, would a presto 16qt pressure cooker work or should I spring for the all american luxery cooker.

I am not sure if it will work, because I do not know what that is, but if it is a pressure cooker, it will. I never used a pressure cooker, only a pot filled with water, and my jars were suspended from the water. I put a lid on the top so the steam did not escape and then a brick onto of the lid. This kept it hot and killed all bacteria because not one jar got infected. Good luck!

Last question, other than the casing process. This is a strain question...

Which (if u've had em) would u prefer B+ or golden teacher?

Also, if I use a casing method will I need to use a portable closet and humidifier to maintain the humidity?

Money isn't really a huge deal, but I don't want to pay for something that's not nessicary. I know shroomy forums have a lot of casing guides, I just need a quick description as I am not sure of how to provide the humidity w/o a humidifier.

Hopefully I will be growing 4 casings at once for 4 flushes. If anyone w/ that does casings can help me out that would be awesome.

Never had either. I did Cambodian, which was excellent. But I hear good things about both of those strains. If this is your first time growing, I suggest no casing, and just grow them from the cakes themselves. It is much easier and you have a better chance at succeeding. I also can help you a lot with that as I have ample knowledge about it. And you can ask as many questions as you like. But I have to go write my Calculus midterm, I can suggest casing methods later if you still want to go that route. Although there are people on this forum that have much more knowledge about casing than I do.

Now that i'm home i'm gonna give ya the bigger picture of what I have prepared

2 - 60" Portable Closets (Have had them before i decided to grow)
2 - Tupperware Containers
2 - Portable closet shelves
24 - 1qt Mason Jars
1 - 16qt Pressure Cooker
1 - Cool mist ultrasonic humidifier
1 - Cat Litter Box, New, Sterilized and attached to the bottom of 1 portable closet to catch water

and of course untolds amounts of lysol, rubbing alcohol (70%-90%), anti baterial EVERYTHING, gloves, replacement syringes, mineral water, etc...

I'm prepared to botch a few jars and even a casing (just 1). I'm a learn from your mistakes kinda guy.

Not sure about casing either but I'm gonna try it out soon myself. I'm not sure how good the humidifier is but Perlite seems to be a great choice in providing humidity. If money isn't to big of a problem you could also invest in a light, from what I've been reading it's about the Kelvin's during the flushing process. Sounds like you got it though, make sure there's pretty of fresh air exchange too.

I've only tried growing Matias Romero and had great times with them, to my understanding the majority of the P. Cubensis strain are very similiar.

Another question, even after reading a bunch of stuff online no one goes into what mushrooms smell like when growing.

If I grew say, 2 casings at a time both off of BRF what will they smell like? would it be to over powering for a smaller size apt?

Earth. They have a distinct earthy smell. At least thats what the smell is to me.

Like mushrooms.

Go to the supermarket and smell some mushrooms.

Excellent. I know it's nearly impossible to grow marijuana in an apartment, atleast I'll be able to enjoy my mushrooms from home. atleast until i get out of this lease and get a good house in BFE.

If your worried about smell in your house you are fine. They will not smell to the point where it will stink your house up like marijuana does.

its very easy to grow in an apartment. there are some low smell varieties and all you really need is 1.5 meters squared floor space for 6 - 9 reasonably large plants. and a light of course. most apartments have a suitable cupboard/closet

It can be easy, but i think it's more dangerous then growing some shrooms.

true. however in the UK mushrooms are a class A scheduled drug, along with heroin and cocaine - which is madness IMO. personally id rather be caught producing weed than a class A. my point was only that it is possible to grow in most apartments

Well the likely hood of negative attention would be higher w/ Cannibis. Shrooms I have set up in the closet and with a few boxes pilled around them, cant really tell their even in there.

And much less energy, I just got done paying extremly high bills because of the 'american' summer crisis.

I'm not to worried about contamination during casing, I have a sterile (able) kitchen to work in I got a descent setup in there:

- Alcohol soaked trashbags tapped up over the bar viewing area and the enterance to the Kitchen

- All surface space has been anti-baterial, alcoholed, and a diluted bleach mixture for added protection

- HEPA air filter in the vent above, which was taken down, dishwashed and soaked in a bleach water mixture.

- I have a HEPA air filtration tower (Like the ION thing on TV)

- Also I have 4 types of Air neutralizers and a spotless stove

So if we take contamination out of the picture, what is the hardest thing about casing?

No need to worry about their transportation to the back room closet as I have portable closets w/ rollers and they are sterile environments as well.
