Any suggestions? I am going to University in September and I need to buy a laptop. Everyone says Mac's are a lot better than PC's. The Mac I want is about $1500, and the PC is around $900. Mac's are obviously a little more expensive, and through my experience it seems like they are a lot more of solid laptops than PC's.

PEACE & LOVE

definetely go for mac!
if i could jump back in time i would have spent my money on a mac laptop.
everything is SO much better with apple.
they don't even use virusscanshit because no virus ever managed to crack the system :D

i'd make it dependant on what you want to do with the laptop. there ARE some really good windows notebooks around, but i agree the apple notebooks have quite high quality standard.

but windows notebooks are alright trust me... there are good ones and bad ones on the market, if you inform yourself well, you will get a windows notebook cheaper than an apple notebook with the same hardware....

i am not sure for what apple is better but i think it was things like graphics stuff and work on pictures...

That is not really correct, because in 2006 there was already a first virus discovered on the macintosh. I think windows has so many virus, because almost everyone has a windows system, and secondly, because there are many linux freaks who desperately attack windows systems because they are capitalists and have a monopoly position.

Not true - Most of the early viruses could be attributed to teenagers being teenagers online - a lot of the malware and adware written these days generates real money as part of a botnet or by directing people to ads.

As for them being Linux users, shrugs. Neither here nor there - apple is capitalistic as well and they tend to aim their products at people with a lot of money - if they were after money, they might hit there. Macs are far from impervious.

Truth is, if you want to make a lot of money writing viruses et al you aim for the Microsoft run PC's because they have a bigger market share and they are easy targets. It's not all market share - they just find it easier to get into Windows. A lot of people don't bother with firewalls, etc even today.

It's not done "for fun" or "for the hell of it" so much as it used to be.

Microsoft isn't disliked for it's capitalistic views either - a lot of companies make money with Linux - it's disliked for the things it does that are both illegal and immoral, I'll save that for another thread.

On topic - it depends what you are going to use it for whether the extra hundreds are actually going to give you anything extra.

Play a lot of games? Get Windows.
Just type stuff? Get Linux, it can work out cheaper and you don't need anything great.
As for Mac... well, you tell me what you'd use it for and we can talk about whether or not an equal priced Windows Laptop wouldn't be better.

I think, at the end of the day, it's only 1/4 need and 3/4's preference choosing an OS.

I use Linux and Windows on this laptop. In all honesty, Windows is only here because it came installed and I got this laptop as part of my job - although I do develop primarily for Windows the work could actually be done on Linux.
