Ketamine as Psychonautic Tool

I wanted to introduce the topic of ketamine for discussion here. You have famed psychonauts John Lilly, Marcia Moore, Timothy Leary, D M Turner who used ketamine as a tool for exploration. As a chemical I see it as having some use but not to the extent of LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, DMT etc. With all the research on bladder problems and users' complaints of 'k-cramps' from regular use, why did we not hear any of that from Lilly et al? Lilly was injecting himself with ketamine every hour, on the hour. Is it just down to the individual's biology or were these nasty side effects unreported?

a) He was lucky and any side effects were mild
b) He just thought that having to piss more often was due to getting old, not taking ketamine
c) He was just embarrassed and did not report it.

I favor a combination of (a) and (b)
