I was watching this episode of Wife Swap a couple weeks ago. I don't know if anyone has heard of it but it's a show were two family's swap wife's for a week or so. Usually the family's are COMPLETE opposites. The episode I was watching (wow I'm starting to feel kind of gay for watching wife swap... boredom's a bitch :) ) they switched a artsy intellectual mom with a kind of country hick mom. Now what I started to notice about the artsy mom is: she was a condescending motherfucking bitch. Telling the other family what to do like they were some inferior race or some shit and she was "oh so great" because she was smart. And I started to think, now correct me if I am wrong, I actually kind of want someone to prove me wrong. But does it seem like that's how a lot of intellectual people act?? Like they're the fucking shit and everyone else are just below them. It just seems like the people I run into in everyday life are like this.

He, who's gifted with a privileged intellectual stature, is better be aware of the writing pencils among mankind. Flattery within a frame is an act of sedation. Those who take off with intelligence, shall portray stairways rather than continuations for tubes of detention.

Stereotypes are well. Just that. Some people are far more arrogant than others. and.. "reality" tv is kind of dubious to begin with.

I grew up in a "hick town" and among them I met amongst the most arrogant people I've ever met in my life.. all complete snobs who thought they knew more than everyone else as they knee-jerk believed whatever their pastor told them, and everything else must be from Satan, after all the bible can't be wrong... whenever they were challenged with a legitimate question they just argued their opponents were arrogant for doubting "God's word". and yes I've met snobs in academia. Sometimes arrogant people climb the ladder of society to assume power, in academia, in politics, wherever, intellectual or not. Some people pick up weapons and hit other people. Some people get a grunt management job and bully/harass their underlings. Anyway, as to what kind of asshole is more annoying, intellectual or otherwise, is anyone's guess. I have noticed that people typically blame the evil they are unfamiliar with for their problems.

And to be fair, i've met incredibly kind, selfless people from all walks of life as well. actually generally more of the latter, than the former, fortunately

Wow, did you grow up on the east coast too?

All that aside, St.bot.32 is right. There are assholes in every walk of life. The religious ones claim that they're better because they are closer to God, the physical ones because they are stronger or tougher, and the intellectual ones because they are smarter. No matter where you are there WILL be assholes there. I just hope I can find a place with more enlightened people and less assholes.[/quote]

Also, remember that there will ALWAYS be someone who think YOU are an asshole.

nauticks, the show you were watching was staged. please PLEASE dont draw comparisons from reality tv to reality, this is very act could turn out to be the downfall of humans and communication, exacerbating stereotypes. if possible, do a 180 and turn off that godforsaken show altogether, and damn near anything else on tv. it clouds the mind

“Watching television is like taking black spray paint to your third eye.

I remember one (Dutch) episode where a guy was told to burn his green.
He was Always smoking weed and not looking after his wife and kids.
So in the end he burnd hie plant.

Just think about two things:

1.) Who is going to participate in such a show must be a dick or stupid from the beginning!

2.) These shows exert an extreme pressure on the producers/editors to produce conflict. When the intellectual artsy bitch isn't bitchy enough, then the producers (who are smart, but soulless people) convince her that she needs to be more bitchy, and they also convince the kids to do exactly what drives their new mom crazy.

Also never believe any boulevard interview with a kid that says "I hate A because B". The kid was definitely tortured into saying that sentence by a mean producer/editor. When you're clever and mean, you can get almost everyone to say almost everything in front of a camera. Especially stupid people and kids...

tv is extreme subjectivity willfully presented under the guise of objectivity. people actually believe those shows... they think it is how all human beings behave.. when all it does is reinforce personal stereotypes, closing their minds to people and personalities outside their own narrow experiences of human interaction.

my conspiracy theory. tv wants you to be stupid. it wants to make you think that all smart people are assholes. then you won't ever listen to anything smart people say, you'll never want to be a smart person, you'll be easier to control :D

and that conspiracy theory comes from growing up in redneckreligionville where all those scientists and unbelievers were "arrogant free thinkers", you wouldnt want to be like them would you
