Alright, I recently bought one, and I have got a few questions...

I have it in my room, but since it's winter and my window is open sometimes it gets a bit cold, does this affect the cactus is any way?

Also, at the bottom, a light green very small line occurs and I suspect this is not a good sign. :( Can anyone inform me about this?

And need the cactus ever a very smal amount of water once in a while?

Inform me about growing optimal please.

LOL, weird, now that light green line is gone.

It seems that the cactus is a bit softer in the evening than in the morning, in the morning it looks a bit darker green and in the evening more lighter, but I have to say this difference is only very slightly.

Peyote grows in the dessert where it can get quite cold, so you're probably fine. Just keep in mind that a cactus is mostly water, so an extended freeze can kill it.

As far as watering, I'm very paranoid when it comes to watering my peyotes; especially in the winter time because I killed several babies by over-watering and rotting the roots. What I do now is just mist them with a spray bottle, they can actually absorb moisture out of the air through their skin. I do this every 2 weeks and they've been looking healthy and I haven't killed any more.

Thank bro. (Y)

I fixed the temprature and it's fine now, a mate of mine told me also that the roots shouldn't pick up ANY water.

And only donating water in the morning every twee weeks in the summer.

Tho I will be VERY careful, maybe two of three drops in a while.

For info, I was also careful with watering young ones and what happened? One day it was hot, much more than usually-in Paris it was the hottest day in 30 years(I know that you can remember heat wale last summer) and lack of water kills all of youngster's in just one day.And they wasn't on the sun, so sun as sun heat is not guilt.

goran, what do you think it should be the watering pattern ? i mean, when should a baby peyote be watered ? i sometimes wander about this and i just sprinkle them with a mister.

This is good. I know that soil needs to be moist always. No to much. And first month or two pot should be covered with plastic foil. Foil will keep moist inside mini greenhouse and only one thing is to remove plastic foil for couple of minutes for fresh air. It is weary similar to terrarium for shroom cakes.

just wondering about whats best for my cacti when theres no very much sunlight coming through my wondow is it best to put it near my radiator then when the sun picks back up put in back on window :D

I have one baby too, and it still feels softy and full of water, not planning to donate any water soon tho.

I wanna know about this light too.

Put the plant at one place for minimum of 40days. Plants are like humans. How would you like to be on radiator in the morning and than 4 meters on another place cause there is at that time some sunlight. Plants must not be removed as you wish-stress can even kill the plant(cacti,apple,salvia-no matter). My grandmother teach me that 20 years ago. Ask anyone!!!!
And one thing more- direct sun is not extremely needed! Plant will grow what so ever! Maybe foil shield and half of plastic coca-cola bottle for covering the cacti. Why? Aluminium foil redirect UV-rays and bottle cover will with some extra CO2 stimuli plant grow and natural enzymatic cycle of alkaloid production(higher resistance to disease.!!!! 8) :)

peyote is a very good and easy plant to keep at home.. this IS because it dont need so much sunlight, it can stand it. But doesnt need it. In nature it lives often under partially shaded places beneath other plants.
And for the babies, keep them moist when there very young . I water 2x times a week. after a couple of months i acclimate to dryer air and also let the soil dry out between waterings.
I keep my peyote growing under 2x 35 watt TL.
And they are very very fine ... First flowering has happend !!!!

I haven't watered my peyote's for about 6 months now, they still look great. Will start watering them again when I can put them outside, in the shade ofcourse.

First, are yours cacti soft and like rotten or old potatoes?? (now after 6 months without water) If you have 4year oldies (or older) than what are you doing is so stressful and even if it is winter time and all the plants are hibernating (I suppose that you follow erowid/azarius/ect. guide) they still need two, three large spoons of water once a week (winter time is growing and roots hardening time, something like preparing the body for enlargement for the summer hot and dry times-for sucking water from dry desert earth)
If this year spring will be like this winter (hotter than usually) yours cacti (Peyoties) will be likely and easier attacked by fungus and molds. And especially the roots. Water them for Gods sake. Friendly advice.

P.S.-I have almost loose 5 25year old fellows. Barley save them. And why I have let them thirsty??? Cause someone sad that mescaline is produced by this way in high quantities? Peyoties are for joy-collection, Pedro for fun-tripping. :) 8) :)

why in the shade??

In winter time I put mine pedro's en peyote's close to the window and I don't give them water. When summer starts(or when sun gives enough heat) I start giving my cacti water again and place them in the full sun they do just fine!!

Probably because it's their natural habitat requirement? they don't like direct sunlight you know

i killed one overexposing it to light once  and not only that i had no clue on how to grow it and thought well it's a cactus and did everything wrong...and...and :crybaby: I still can't redeem myself sorry

one thing i learned (much later after the peyote growing experience) is that, being plants like humans, they like company and in company they thrive y'know...so you want to put them near another plant and talk to them
Talking to a plant is very important as it gives a boost to its morale and makes it even more powerful :) it's the power of love...there's no stronger power than that + comfort :goodman: to the the health of a living being

Ok bout shade in Arizona, Dixie, Mexico but here in Europe we do not have so dry and hot air that produce little water at cold night so what can you concluse: Put yours cacti on fry sun. We are only have it bout 4 to 6 months per year. States above have this almost all year.
