Hi everyone, a friend of mine just found some psylo in a field, but he said that they're too small at the moment to be worth picking them...

Another friend of mine told me that those shrooms are growing so fast that we should check tommorow or at least in 4-5 days, as they should be perfect by this time...

Any opinions ?

When I grew in S. France a few years back, I used to bury old cakes that where exhausted and sometimes contaminated, in the ground in the backyard. Sometimes I got a nice treat from those. These mushrooms (amazonian cubensis strain) grew as fast outside as inside but I kept the area humid artificially.

Do you remember how fast those were growing ?

That should be ok - once they're out of the soil they grow pretty fast. I'll guess 5 days could be too long already!

Okay, thx everyone, we'll try to find some time to go there before next weekend !

Oh, and one last question, how tall is a mature shroom ? I mean, I know that it depends on a lot of factors, but what should be the minimal size before we should gather them ?

I remember reading something about when the caps split from the stem they are mature. I think that was talking about indoor growing as I'm sure they can grow bigger after that as well. They are fine to eat anytime even as pins.

Harvest before the veil breaks, or a little earlier.

Here are the shrooms he found, he says he's quite sure that the first one is a psylo, but he still wonders about the second one... Any thoughts ?

They have black spores ????? all psylos have black spores ....

Errrrr, must admnit that we're totally noobish when it comes to this  , where are those spores located on the mushroom ? And what does they look like ? Tiny dots ?

I wouldn't suggest you eat them. There are many different species out there and many are poisonious. Spores come out from under the gills. Under the cap. Yes black dots.

I wouldn't even be sure about the first ones...

In my opinion being "pretty sure" is not safe enough for eating wild mushrooms. You need to be at least 110% sure...

Well, I suppose everyone learned somehow, so which from which source would we get the needed informations, if testing them is not a (safe) option ?

Books ?

Not from here anyway. Picking mushrooms from the wild is something that you dont just from a book.

You can check the spores by putting one mature head on a peace of paper for a day or two. Then you should have black/purple spores. Note: NOT all psilocybin spores a black so take a hint on the wrong information you are getting even on this site.

When you have a spore print, using a microscope, you carefully compare them to the magnified picures in your mushroomhuntingbook.

Another option is to take someone with you, who is experienced.

Okay, then I'm going to try to find a microscope and do what you told me, thanks for the info

mushrooms grows fast in the nature, when it's their time to grow.
From primordia to full sized mushroom before starting to spread spores differs because of the speeshes( 1-2 days for P. Semilanceata, 3-4 days for P.Cubensis and about a week for the A.Muscaria), but their size actualy doubles every day until they stop growing and start sporeing.

p.s. those on the first picture maybe are psylo, but the ones on the second picture do not look like any of the mushrooms I know.

Spores from 90% of fungus are all white color moderation-from white to grey.Everybody will think that spores are more vivid on black or painted paper-NO.On white paper they have better visibility couse painted paper can give false colours of spores. This count also for glass and celofanic(plastic paper). And what bout poisonus shrooms? Fatal fungus are big and only 10% of all fungus are moderate to low poison containing shrooms.50grams of Amanita Phalloides is deadly for human being. And this is 30cm big jusy shroom, the most poisonus shroom in Europe(grows in forest only).Little psilo-shroom cant be confused for fatal shroom only you can get diarrea, stomack noisia and vomiting just like from all psilocibin containing shrooms-they are poisonus too-more or less depends bout organism. 8) :!:

Actually cubies can double size each 9 hours if conditions are near perfect :)
