Hi everyone!

I'm wondering... what does mushrooms do to the serotonin system? All i can read on the internet is that it's 5HT-x agonists and things like that, which I have no clue what it means. Could anyone please explain me in a simple way what is exactly the action of mushrooms in the brain? (especially about serotonin)

Thanks!

Psilocin resembles serotonin, psilocin causes a backfire meschanism (autofeedback) because the chemical balance "thinks" that there is enough serotonin, so the serotonin goes back into the neuron it came from. The lack of serotonin causes the increase in dopamine (serotinin vs. dopamine is an important balance as well) => trip

Source: "Alles over paddo's" written by Arno Adelaers, he got it from Hartmut Laatsch: "Zur Pharmakologie von Psilocybin und Psilocin" in: Roger Liggenstorfen and Christian Rätsch: Maria Sabina, Botin der Heilige Pilze", Solothurn 1996, p201-202

The simple answer is NO . Nobody can realy do that , as you see "pseudo scientists" when asked always talk shit about neuro chemicals / transmiters ......... blah , blah ,blah dopamine , blah , blah blah , seretonine , blah , blah.......

= someone comes and tells you that the bus goes to Amsterdam because it uses oil , water and benzin in the engine . Nothing about how , or why Amsterdam , or where in Amsterdam , or what route , or why you see what you look out of the windows .

Sorry for the shity example , but i think that you will understand what i mean .

Well GOD, he asked how the bus got in Amsterdam

Well Meduzz , i just told him........ nobody knows or can explain how it works they can only say what hapens chemicaly in your brain when it works . But if you threw brain transmitters at your brain you would not get a trip.........

GOD a dit:
But if you threw brain transmitters at your brain you would not get a trip.........

No, because the natural chemical balance would restore itself, it's simple chemistry actually...

But I know what you mean, nobody can explain anything, all they can do is make up a lot of hypotheses and consider the most simple as true. That's why I quoted my sources so punctually. I'm also pretty sure there is more to it than the theory I unfolded here.

Peace

Thank you Meduzz this is the answer I wanted. What I mainly wanted to know was what effect it has on the serotonin concentration in the brain. I am also curious to know, after the trip, does it has an after-effect on it? Like MDMA leaves you drained of all your serotonin the day after. Would it be possible that it allows your serotonin concentration in the brain to stay higher for a certain period of time?

And if I understand well, psilocin have about the opposite effect than MDMA on serotonin. Then why is there such a synergy between the two?
