Hello -

Same reason I came here a few years ago. In the biggest general statement I can make: it's a learning experience.

I went through alot, and had my "bad" trip somewhere during my senior year of highschool. I'm now 3 years into college and can honestly say it has affected my life incredibly. At first it was a very detrimental thing, but it was so profound in realizations and contemplation I am a far better person today than would I have been if I had stayed sober that night. You can't take it back, but you can learn from it. And believe me, there is ALOT to learn from a bad trip - especially the ones of the extremity you speak of (6 months).

Stick around, I'll be here to relate.

Bad trips are only 'bad' because us Westerners have been conditioned to believe that anything that isn't 'under control' is bad.

Losng control isn't something that a bad trip tries to teach us is 'ok'......

'Control' is a dangerous illuson, bad trips would like us to understand.....and it IS an illusion.

The feelings that you get are externalizations of what your mind percieve as the consequences of losing control.

The reality is that almot no one is 'in control', ever......and this isn't someting to get hung up on, but something to be aware of, and willingly move past.

Many people will spnd their entire life grappling with this very issue.

G'day 31andsunny,

I've had a couple of very unpleasant experiences on shrooms that had some lasting effects (though not as long as 6 months but I had a great deal of past experience before I experienced my "bad trips".

There's a lot of people here to help. Spice makes a very good point, "good" and "bad" are subjective experiences and it is our social conditioning, as opposed to some sort of objective criteria, that causes us to frame these experiences in terms of "good" or "bad". They are merely experiences and it is possible to train your brain to see them as purely experiences without attaching any sort of moral judgment to them.

Fear is most likely the root of your "bad" trip and the only way to overcome fear is to face it, embrace it as part of you and then rationalise it (thanks to IJC for that one). Don't rush into your next psychedelic experience, plan it, cleanse your body and mind before hand and if the "bad" feelings arise again, don't shy away from them but invite them in, analyse them and then integrate them into your trip, hopefully then you'll find that the "bad" bit drops away and you are just tripping (no "good" or "bad").

Goodluck

PS this is amartuer, armchair psychology borne from no greater learning than my own personal experiences and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt.
