At the urging of this post, I've decided to stop lurking.
I don't really have much to add, seeing how I've never actually done any psychedelics. The people near me growing up were mostly into pot, coke, and xanax, none of which really interested me. Somewhere along the line I started reading about Leary, and some of the effects of LSD. I also read a bunch of Carlos Casteneda at one point and even though he turned out to be a phoney, the books still sparked my interest. I've always been kind of introspective and thoughtful, and the idea of using psychedelics to explore within myself interests me. A lot of the trip reports I've read talk about realizations I've come to on my own without chemicals (shared consciousness, oneness, etc.) and I'm interested in seeing exactly what those experiences are like.
I've started putting out feelers with people I know as far as acquiring shrooms or lsd. This is sort of challenging as I'm pretty much out of the loop with those things. I'm sure it will find me eventually though. As I eventually acquire something, I'm sure I'll have more questions and I will be sure to document any thoughts or feelings I have here.
