I found out on my own that something important was missing in the azarius instructions on the psilocybe growkit:

The shrooms produce C02 which is heavier than oxygen/air. That means your shrooms will suffocate in their own C02 unless you actively fan air into the bucket at least once a day! Only opening the foil doesn't help because - like I said - the C02 is heavier than air and it won't come out on its own.

There are some other things I changed that I think make the shrooms grow better: I took the cake from the plastic box and placed it in the bucket naked. Of course then you can't have water at the ground of the bucket - only spray the bucket and cake until everything's moist. Close the foil almost totally and check the moisture at least once a day.

Hope this can help others grow more and better shrooms from the beginning!

It is true that CO2 is heavier than the air around us but that does not mean that the mushrooms will kill themselfs if not ventilated. When i read chemistry in high-school i learned that if you let out any gas (lets say CO2) into a room for example, the gas will spread it self out so the concentration CO2 will be even through out the whole room.
Thats why (and this is no joke) if i fart and you are in the other end of the room, you will eventualy smell it.
When the mushrooms produce CO2 it will spread out through the box and the out to the room. :lesson:

Well, eventually it will spread. But if there's not much space between the room and the growbox (because of the foil which is there to keep humidity high) then the time is too long before the Co2 and the air outside will mix.

Believe me, it really helps a lot to fan fresh air into the bucket twice a day! It's my own experience, but you can also google around and you'll find that all the pro shroom growers agree on that matter (that's where I got the idea, btw)

If at first you have overflowed it water and you have left on 12 hours or 6 hours? Or put dry cake on the bucket and then spray it water?
I've have 2nd flush and now i want try your method.

Sorry for this mess on your post, but I only wanted to ask you question about your method.

I only sprayed it with a lot of water - but maybe soaking it in water once would also work (or even work better)??? I don't know. Spraying it with a lot of water in the beginning does definitely work.

When the cake is outside of the plastic box you'll see that a lot of shrooms will grow from the sides of the cake. In the box they would be squeezed on the sides of the box and not grow well. I think you can get up to 30% percent more shrooms without the plastic box, even more so in later flushes.

Thanks,
You have got right about shrooms of the sides of cake
I'll try soak the cake by 6 hours and then following yours instructions
I'll inform about my harvest

Try hippies dunk tek you will find it at the shroomery

I'm gonna try out the 2ce a day blowing air into the bag, thnx for the tip
I just set my kit up last thursday, do I allready need to air it or do I wait untill the first pins show up?

Yeah this picture is a great example imho
(ofcourse this is not from a growkit)

When do you have to start fanning the grow kit? As soon as there are mushrooms, or do you already have to start as soon as you see mycelium and / or pinheads?

I use to do it from the beginning, but it might be ok if you start fanning as soon as you see little mushrooms.
With my first growkit, when I didn't fan fresh air into the container, the shrooms were growing a little (looked just fine) but then they suddenly stopped growing, I guess that was when they didn't have enough oxygen.
