hey guys, i noticed my jars are no longer colonizing. i have flipped them over, left for 2 days, then flipped back, and fourth. and i havent seen any movement in the past few days. so i was just wondering what the best way to use what steral colonies i have, to get the max yeild.

secondly, i have a few storage tubs, and was wondering if i should wash it out with 70%+ rubbing alcohol? also, i will be using a humidifier for my humidity (using a hose to go through multiple pop bottles, then into the fruiting chamber)

and lastly, would oats mixed with vermiculite be a good source for food for the colonies?

I'm not 100% sure on which method to use, but I would like to say something about Alacabenzi Strain. This Strain is unrealiable and will stop colinizing! It has happen to me, and has happen to Ultima. Please choose otherwise if you plan on ordering spores.

PEACE & LOVE

soo.. is oats a good source for food?

I love porridge in winter especialy when i put a few raisons in it .

yeah... so i think i killed my mlycieum, it turned into almost a oatmeal type crap.. so i tried adding more vermiculite (sterilized) into the mix. it dried it up a little more.. but its still a little mushy.. so ill let ya know what happens.

Where did you get the oats idea from ?

Just grow regular cakes......and leave them alone........ and when they are ready put peat casing on top of wet perlite , then the cakes , then peat casing and cover it with plastic to keep the moisture in . Or if you want a bigger crop before you put the top layer of casing over the cakes put a pot full of sterilised grain or rice over them and then the caseing .

His cakes stops colonizing. He bought the Alacabenzi strain, which did the exact same thing to me!

Did you get them from the same suplyer ? Maybe the suplyers spores were crap and not that type in general ?

The oats bit interests me ?

well, i havent actually read up anything about the oats, but i figure oats could possibly be a good source of nutrients. but yeah, the mlycieum is definatly either contaminated or something. i threw it out today.

time to start the B+ strain!

OK now i understand about the oats . The idea interested me because i`ve never seen moldy oats no matter how long i didnt wash up .

I know i keep saying that if something doesnt grow fast enough i would chuck it away . But some cultures grow slowly and are allright . Some grow slowly if they arent kept warm enough for them . So before you throw them away i think its agood idea to think about what the reasons for the slow growth could be .

Maybe you should have asked the supplier what exactly would have been the best nutrients for this kind of mycelium...???

Lets not forget it's illegal to grow in the first place :D

hehe yeah. im going to start my B+ this week. hopfully have better results then last time. and this time ill be even more steral-parinoid, and make sure everything is perfect. i figure one day vs 30days of waiting = worth it.

I`m sure thats the right atitude and the key to sucess .
