hello all
I'm wondering if someone can help me please?

I bought a MycoMate Fast Fingi kit and some Columbian spores which come in a needle.

But the instructions have TOTALLY confused me!!!

I gather that a quick route would be to ignore the instructions, and inject the whole needle of spores into the bag that has the dirt in, and kind of go from there. First off, is that valid?

But also - I paid the extra to get the vial of other liquid which comes with Fast Fungi beacuse I thought it would mean higher yield, quicker. So it would be a shame not to use it. But I really have no idea what to do with that.

Can anyone help me in just simple terms?

Thanks for any help!!

Tell me exactly what you got from that firm please . It would also be good if you would post exactly what they told you to do here as well . I`m sure we can help you so just have a bit of patience .

If the bag only has dirt in it dont inject it with anything .

Maybe this is a pre-sterilized bag ready for inoculation. Azarius seems to have them too.

I'm really thinking about buying one of these and try them because the sterilization step is driving me crazy. I'm going the PF-Tek beginner's route but last time I tried it was too much flower with the vermiculite plus there was water getting inside the jars during inoculation. Now the substrate is all baked together and I don't think there'll be much coming out of it...

A bag with dirt in it ? Mushrooms dont grow on dirt but one can use "dirt" as caseing .

"too much flower with the vermiculite plus there was water getting inside the jars "

Have you got instructions about how to do it and the amount of each ingredient to use ? How was water getting into the jars ?

GOD a dit:

I had the instructions that came with the package from the shop I mentioned. They weren't very good, so I also looked up pf tek on some site. I was also using bad jars (plastic ones). I already learned what to avoid next time, but I'm still not sure how I can avoid water getting inside the jars during the sterilization in the pressure cooker.

What happens once the mycelium is spread will be no problem, I have done that multiple times with grow boxes. It's just the preparation/sterilization/inoculation steps that I need to learn more about.

The bag I was referring to is not "dirt" but sterilized rye in a sealed bag that can be inoculated with any kind of mushroom spores.

NewGrow was talking about a bag with dirt in it . Your talking about substrate .

What type of lids have the jars you want to use got ? have they got a rubber seal ?

Do you use a preasure cooker ? How much water do you put in it ?

Google growbags and look for spores 101, watch their free videos. That'll show u what 2 do w/ ure grow bag.

As far as getting water in jars when sterilizing, use heavy duty foil and use 2 layers, make sure they cover the whole lid; usually folded down over the top of the jar.

Don't over fill u're pressure cooker, that will cause extra water in u're product, that happened 2 me; lost 24 quarts of rye grain. Gl and let us know how things r going!

One thing: in general it's a waste to inject an entire spore syringe into your substrate (unless it is a huge amount ofcourse). So, also consider how much spore water you want to inoculate, because what's left you can use for a later project. Also, injecting the whole syringe could make the substrate a little wet.

I never had a problem with water from the preasure cooker getting into the jars . It all heats up at the same time and the preasure builds up , nearly , equaly so if you get water in the jars its probably because you had to much in the preasure cooker .
