I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good field guide of N. American mushrooms.

here is one good one for european mushroom hunting.

how to find the right medow:

The good field is visible from far away

035.jpg

1. this have to be gras (not grain field)where animals (horses, cows, sheep)are feeding
032.jpg

2. on the edje of the field there are typical clusters of higher gras(which in this time of the year are yelow)
024.jpg

3. The field is a litle bit steep with a plate-like down side, (it can be plain, but mushroom grows close to the moisture, so you'd better start from the lowest part of the medow.
The most magiccal medow looks like this:

with this kind of gras clusters
getdata.php

in which this kind of creatures are hiding
psilocybe_semilanceata24.jpg

when the weather is more humide they can be darker

and when the weather is dry they can be lighter

Now, try to find the hiden mushrooms on the picture by yourself.

If you can not, see the next picture

zoom needed?

now lets say it again:
1. it have to be grass field
2. where animals are living
3.which is a bit steep
4.and in the end there is lower place
5.where typical vegetation is growing

p.s.
note from me (the humble translator)
whild semilanceata shrooms can be found in all Europe and in all Asia, in lower or higher fields, in shorter or longer gras

mostly in the months september, october and november after the rains.
here in Bulgaria it's just started.
p.p.s. unfotunately the pictures from the rusian site are visible only if you visit their site

I replaced some of the non actwe links with pictures which describes the right feelds

nice pictures!!!!!

...especially the third one, don't why though :D

Animals are not required for them to grow. The cow poo is just a great fertilizer for them to grow.

I've seen them grow in forests as well.

...especially the third one, don't know why though :D

LOL That's what I thought - I need to find that field ;)
