Hello everybody,

I don't know if this topic has already been created, if it is the case, I apologize.
Everything is in the subject : What is your favourite book about psychedelics and mind-altering techniques ?

I'm currently reading "Shroom, a cultural history of the magic mushroom" by Andy Letcher, and I think that "Heaven and Hell" by Aldous Huxley is my favourite.

PS : Does anybody have ever read books by Stanislav Grof ? Were they interesting ? Thanks in advance for your answers ;-)

Terrence McKenna-Food of the Gods
One of the best books about psychadelic plants and their influence in human history and evolution ever written.

I'll sugest anyone to read "The Fourth Way" by Ouspensky.

Has nothing to do with psychedelics (though, he talks a page about drugs). But for us, as I presume, that are interested in human mind, life, existance, etc... , this book worths evey word, time you give to it, comprehension and energy.

Nietzsche book "Zaratustra" doesn't speak bout psydelics but you must read it!
Ljubiša Grli? (Ljubisa Grlic) and his book "World of Hallucinogens" is fine objective book bout psydelics and culture who use it.

Next you can read Castaneda's books! First one shows psydelic plants in effect but rest books define and show you what all that means.

Third. I am reading book from Jeremy Narby. Cosmic Snake, DNA, and origin of knowledge. This is excellent book! Maybe the best and truthfully book bout this subject ever! 8) :!: :)

Nisam te razumio baš najbolje.
Book is written on Croat language but also on other languages. Ljubiša Grli? was one of the highest hallucinogen researcher! He was "secretary" of UN drug program and declaration. He is very similar to Stanislav Grof, Claudio Naranjo, Meckenzie.

Svijet halucinogenih droga- World of hallucinogenic drugs is published by NOVA KNJIGA RAST http://www.superknjizara.hr/index.php?p ... ladnik=101

I looked over net and english version I couldn't find. So if you know enough Hrvatski I could send you this book?

Znam srpski jezik skoro perfektno.Nema neka razlika sa Hrvatskim, jeli?Mali problem su samo padezi, nemamo ih u makedonski...:)
How can u send me the book?
You got e-book?Or?
Btw,pitanje je bilo, kako ja mogu najdeti one knigi sta si gi ti spominjao?
p.s svi osim Nitsche.Mrzim njima.

Srpski i Hrvatski su isti u esenciji ali imaju neke razlike. Ja imam tu knjigu ali "knjigu" a ne electronic book! Carlos Castaneda's books you can find in library! Maybe even Jeremy Narby's Cosmic snake,DNA and origin of knowledge. But if you can't find Cosmic snake in library (but I think that you will find it) you can buy it in book store.

ASK ME ANYTHING BOUT THE BOOKS AND WHERE TO GET THEM :)

The Origin of Consciousness in the Break down of the Bicameral Mind by Julian Jaynes, The Archaic Revival by Terence Mckenna, Mushroom Wisdom by Martin W. Ball.

PEACE & LOVE

When I read the topic title I though of personal favorite books, subject irrelevant. Why not post everyone's favorite book too?

I want to share the one I thought about when I read the topic... I read it years ago and now I think it was almost as good as a tiny dose of a psychedelic :)

I's Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder

It's part philosophy, part Alice in wonderland and part reality transcendence and universes within universes.

Not about psychedelics, but about a mind-altering technique called incubation, used in ancient Greece by the early philosopher-mystics:

Reality, by Peter Kingsley

Best book I've read in the last 12 months.

Well, since the only book I've read on Psychedelics is DMT the Spirit Molecule, I can't really pick a favorite from the list.

But my favorite book I've read last year (next to The Illuminated Rumi) is the Conversations with God serie by Neale Donald Walsh

phillippos, that's a GREAT book!
i like alan watts' lectures (specially the "time and eternity" and "joyous cosmology"), "the archaical revival" by terrence mckenna, "doors of perception" and "after many a summer", by aldous huxley (the latter is not directly about psychedelics, but you can smell its hints - i LOVE all huxley's books that i've read so far), "the shaman", by piers vitebsky (it is a documentary), john lilly's sensorial deprivation....
then, there are plenty of books that will teach you to grow, and not directly pointed at the psychedelic experience, since i consider all literature to be a manifestation of the mind, and therefore pretty mind-altering. but i don't think you are interested in those.
if you are very into books, don't forget to live your life!

good readings!

good advice daytripper, well said....

Alan Watts introduced me to the concept of zen, in his classic, 'way of Zen'

ANYBODY who wants to hear an extremely intelligent man use the full potential of the English language to explain the 'inscrutable oriental mind'

READ THIS BOOK

It may change your life, it helped me immensely.

Island - Aldous Huxley.
A novel about a psychedelic utopia.

Hey spice... would you happen to have the book on pdf or similar? I searched the web but I only found audio books and I really prefer to read.

Alan Watts is teh fuckin´ master.

It is definitely worthwhile to listen to his talks. I´ve listened to all the talks I could find by him (say about a hundred hours) and I never thought I was wasting my time.

phillipos- I don't have it on pdf, its an old copy I found, accidentally at a used bookstore.....well, mabe it was an accident.....I'll look around and if I find it I 'll post the link...

I lent my copy to a friend who is a POW in the war on drugs, I figured it would be a good thing for him.
