The marquis colour test and the ones one can get from chemists are useless for drug checking because they only indicates a drug group not an individual drug , and they dont show how much of that group the pills contain either . They also dont show if the detected drug group is the active ingredient . = the pill could test positive for one drug group but it might also contain another drug as the real active ingredient that the tests dont show . Most of the drug checking done is done with these methods wich means that it is useless . What is needed is a real lab that does proper tests for all the chemicals a pill contains = its VERY expensive and takes a long time . There is also no point in releasing statistics about individual designs on pills or fotos of pills because every pill has a copy with the same design but diferent ingredients .

Has anyone got any experience with drug checking or thoughts about it or what i have written ?

The colour tests are better than nothing - if you've got a white powder, it's nice to have an idea of what to expect - although I personally don't usually take things I haven't extracted, or recieved from a trusted source.

I've done a bit of HPLC, NIR etc. in the past, and although the setup is expensive (really, really expensive) the actual test itsef is pretty cheap (just reagents), and at a push could get results out in 24hrs (...but you'd need to have signed my overtime :) ). I've only done mass spec. once before - and that's meant to be the best for this kind of thing...

Just wondering: what made you bring it up - have you got hold of marquis reagents? or just curious about responses?

I understand presumptive tests have limited scope, but they tend to be all thats available - the attachment i've added might be handy to show the limits of each colour test kit. (scroll down to the botom of the pdf. to see which reagent each line is refering to - marquis is A5).

Someone moved a thread from the english section to the new german section so i wrote down what i thought , but when i tried to post it i couldnt because it was more than 150 days old so i posted my answer here .

I think the mass spectrometry tests are the ones that i was talking about being the best ones but i wasnt sure if i could spell it so i didnt write it . Arent they the ones that show lots of nice points representing every chemical it detects so you know whats in it and how much is in it ? As i said , for me i see no point in any test that doesnt tell me exactly what and in what concentration is in them .

I dont know if its still posible but you used to be able to go to the chemists here and buy it . Its was also possible to get the same / a similar set of tests from head shops and chemists and you could also get sweat wipe tests from chemists last time i looked to .

I downloaded the pdf and will read it shortly and maybe comment on it . Thanks .

Its very interesting .

2 things :-

Whos ideas of what colour each colour is are we going to use ?

And

To have any usefull information one would have to do ALL the tests on each sample and then we still wouldnt know how much of each chemical the sample contains .

"Arent they the ones that show lots of nice points representing every chemical it detects so you know whats in it and how much is in it ?"

Thats it, and if anyone reading this has a bit of experience with it, I'd like to get some advice from them - I'm doing a forensics assignment for uni, and need a mass spec database or someone who can ID from sight - I've ID'd cocaine in one, but can't find any reference spectrums on the web that match what I've got for the second, so help appreciated. one idea - what is a usual adulterant of cocaine? then I'll have something to work with.

The interpretation of colours a big stumbling block for beginners, but the more you do a test, and the more you get results or standards to compare to, it becomes easier.

I know the police use (cobalt thiocyanate?) wipes to detect cocaine on surfaces (the false positives include sleeping tablets and lidocaine), but I haven't seen any test kits in smart shops / pharmacies before - maybe obtainable off the web... may be possible to cook up yourself, but I don't know my chemistry enough to say its feasable.

"what is a usual adulterant of cocaine?"

It could be any white powder / crystals from chalk to pemolin to amphetamines to sugars to starches to any of the other caines to quinine . ( allthough the quinine i have is a yellow powder ??? )

I have a recipe for making marquis but i dont know where . If i remember i will post it .

I used to do drugs info at partys but the only tests i ever did were to eat them !!!!!

I will go and ask my chemists about the availability of tests and let you know what they say .
