hey buds ive read a lot of comments on how good curing is an so-on but cant see How to cure,
whats the process??

and is it, MH for veg- and HPS for flowering ? or other way round...thanks

Oh and my Aunty used to always give her plants a water with sugar water bout 3 days before harvest then just hang whole plant upside down?

yep mh for veg, hps for flowering.

curing, just dry the bud, not to fast, not too slow as long as air can circulate n keep it in the dark, the longer u leave it the more smooth the smoke becomes. and tasty :) when u can snap it and it crumbles n sticks in tiny bits to your finger/thumb without having to pull on it put it in an airtight glass storage jar somewhere cool.

mmm mmm mmmm

What he said.

And after you put the buds in the jars, taste should become better with time.

Check the jars the first few days for condensation, if there is some, let the jars breathe for an hour check again every day. If no condensation, you probably want to check on the jars twice per week, opening them and letting them breath for 10-15 mins.

O and keep the jars in the dark as well.

Anyone tried water curing? Not to many people have tried it I guess. From what I have read on it you soak your budz in water for 7 days. I would use a clean cooler or something big that you can drain with. Anyways you soak for 7 days, changing the water everyday. Also you want to put something on top of the buds to make sure they are completely submerged. once the 7 days are done you throw them in a food dehydrator on the lowest setting for 5 hours. Once that is complete you are done budz ready to smoke. This i guess is good for if you use fertz and your not sure if you flushed everything out. It will get everything out. Also smoke is supposed to be super smooth. NOw if you grow strains that have great flavor and thats the reason you grow that particular strain then I would not recommend water curing cause your not gonna get any flavor after water curing. Also good for smoking in public cause there will not be much of a smell to the smoke. Anyways this is just what I have picked up from reading about water curing. If you have any suggestions or experience with this let me know or if any of this info is incorrect let me know cause I am just a beginner learning the ropes. I still got a couple more years until I can start my own grow, but I am just doing alot of reading.

MH for veg- and HPS for flowering

it is worth finding a book on cultivation.

For curing, you better don't dry the weed too long

I think i read somewhere that you get best results when the weed contains about 20 % water and then go curing it.
When u dry too long, your weed will only contain 10% water or so, and curing won't be as effective..
(i thought curing was a kind of fermentation? so water is needed for it?)
could be that i'm wrong, but i think i read it like this somewhere?! any one can confirm?

shamanita, yeah it gets harsh when too dry. and falls to bits. i dunno about the fermentation, i wonder if thats the "amsterdam" taste get when smoking skunk from there, it all seems to have the same husky kinda taste regardless of variety.

i was always more scared of mould than it been too dry to be honest.

grow loads, hang em all over the house to dry.. theres always one thats "just right"

them was good times... i didnt get much done though!

I suppose you can't equate straight across the board, the curing of tobacco or pot. Perhaps the expectations of the end user have a lot to do with how they are both handled. When pot is baled in the old fashioned sense with stems, seeds and tops interspersed in a fairly tight bundle with some residual moisture content the material was naturaly given some time to age and cure, creating some interesting sugars and compounds that contribute to a funky, sweet, mild smoke. I always liked to see signs of that in a lid. Nowdays with buds carefully selected, manicured and bagged, the goal seems to be a somewhat different product, where the original and possibly fabulous qualities of the bud are preserved as much as possible. Also, the possible deterioration of the THC content is guarded against. I personally prefer a golden sweet well cured Thai stick, or a good old fashioned lid off the streets to all the fancy clinical, industrial stuff you see around most of the time, in my area anyway. I remember a sizeable stash that was left in a warm attic, not tightly sealed, for about two weeks. When it was recovered it had turned a beautiful golden colour with a great aroma and the best taste that I'd ever encountered. It was pliable and rolled well for some time after the product was distributed. Everyone loved it, but then again, if it were left up to most of them they would not have treated the material in the same way for all the above reasons.

To me THC content has always come second to the "quality "of the smoke. Just they same as alchohol content comes second to good brewing, distilling and ageing.

for me, anything commercial would just get 7 days max in a cool dry space, fresh air circulating at all times.
remember more weight = money...

for my personal smoke I would choose the best looking colas, trim to perfection, dry as above then pop in a large jar. open the lid every couple of days for 10 mins. repeat for as long as I could possibly manage or until I'd hit a month or so, then enjoy.

proper curning defo makes for a less harsh/much sweeter smoke.

take all that with a pinch of salt though (not literally..), I'd regularly just smoke whatever and it would still do the trick!

like 1bad says- 'them was good times'

I'd say easiest way is to put them in brown paper bags and put them in a dry dark place. Switch out the bags daily until the buds leave a thin resin on your fingers when you squeeze it, but aren't wet. Also for taste, towards the end of 7 days or so, the last two days you can put citrus peels into the bags to give them a different taste. Experimenting with that creates different flavors which is always fun :).

Oh, and if you're worried about nutes, last 2-3 days of flowering, just flush the water and replace with ph balanced distilled water. It should clear out the plant.

I tried watercuring once with a bunch of buds only after a friend, tried some with his harvest and was excited about it.

Water curing works well, it's fast and you'll end up with a weed that's almost tasteless and less weight but full potency. There are a number of teks about it if you google them. Personally I prefer normal dry/cure.
