As I understand, this is the case in a lot of countries. If you have broken the law and are registered as such, you loose your right to vote.

I never see this questioned but if you think of it, this is a very effective way to avoid people with radically different mindsets than usual, going to vote.

See what I mean?

Example: If you get caught with cannabis in the USA (and in some states parafernalia is enough), you wont be able to choose a political party anymore ever. So whenever a party wants to put legalizing cannabis on their agenda, they are doomed to fail because the people that would vote for them, are not allowed to.

Or do I see it too simple ;)

yup , and they call it freedom in USA
In Europe most of the countries had already changed the drugs law , is not legal but at least is not a crime anymore, of course is not enough for us , but i think we can vote in most european countries
I had already several problems with consumption and i was founded with a friend with 0,5 kg of hash in Portugal , he get 4 years and half in jail in Portugal , in Switzerland I know persons that have been arrested with large amounts and just paid a caution to be free , any way I'm still free of any crime and i m able to vote.

ah yes, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!

No, heartcore, you aren't over-simplifying, thats exactly how it is.

But this country has degraded to the point where it doesn't really matter because the seeds of change have been planted by the US government itself... history moves in cycles and what the dummies running the US don't see is that the 60's are re-forming right before all our eyes.

The idea of 'representative voice' was central to the founding of this country, because people were sick of having the king shove decisions down their throats. ( W, does this sound familiar? )

Once you strip the people of representative voice, then its just tyranny, under whatever label.

definitely a Godless america.

spice seems to have a better out look for this country. the revolution of the sixies primed and ready to happen again.

i don't share this hopeful view.
maybe b/c i know to many "real americans" making me want this country to burn. and one day i'll get my wish, even if i don't live to see it. i despise being a part of this culture of spiritual death, where out dated morals are held so high yet shit on by those who preach and defend them.

I was caught with some pot it did not affect my ability to vote. It is a misdemeanor if the amount is less then an ounce. Felons loss their right to vote but i don't think it is permanent

finally we all agree, now what do we do about it?

viva la revolution!!!!!!

alice a dit:

Write a letter to Amnesty International? Maybe the priority is on people being tortured around the world, but nevertheless..

Is there any chance of getting enough autographs about cannabis from people to get it on a politics agenda?

pazusu
this is off topic but you have one of the most beautiful, honest, and true quotes i've ever read. inspiring even.

signing petitions is a good idea, if democracy actually worked it would be a wonderful idea. but american democracy would lock every person that signed the petition away so they would never be heard from again. the way shit is now i wouldn't be surprised if most smart americans jump ship and start moving across the pond.

toadlicker- I hear you. Your thoughts are pretty much the same as mine.

It is hard to move across the pond, or even get out of America altogether these days. A lot of the casual access to mexico and canada doesnt exist anymore. Intense scrutiny is what one can expect, at best.

I, too, know many 'real' Americans who almost make one want to see it end.

While I do think the sixties are going to return, I dont expect a carbon copy.
The 60's were a much more innocent, naive time....we'll have the same dissent, and protests, but probably no good outcome, except that this group of individuals, so determined to steer our lives to hell, will have to stop once enough people get pissed off enough to turn off their IPODS and Acuras
long enough to guarantee a safe, decent future for themselves and their offspring.

Unfortunately for everyone, this is in the future, one way or another.
