Two new studies point to a wonderful way to ward off Alzheimer's disease and other forms of age-related memory loss.
Two new studies suggest that substances usually associated with dulling the mind -- marijuana and red wine -- may help ward off Alzheimer's disease and other forms of age-related memory loss. Their addition comes as another study dethrones folk remedy ginkgo biloba as proof against the disease.

At a November meeting of the Society of Neuroscience in Washington, D.C., researchers from Ohio State University reported that THC, the main psychoactive substance in the cannabis plant, may reduce inflammation in the brain and even stimulate the formation of new brain cells.

Meanwhile, in the Nov. 21 issue of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, neurologist David Teplow of the University of California, Los Angeles reported that polyphenols -- naturally occurring components of red wine -- block the formation of proteins that build the toxic plaques thought to destroy brain cells. In addition, these substances can reduce the toxicity of existing plaques, thus reducing cognitive deterioration.

it hasnt worked on my friends 85yo mum. shes been doing red wine and weed for years. last year she forgot shes smoked cigarettes for 62 years and stopped, though she was pretty agitated for a week or so. we thought it best not to remind her

You know, I believe any mind-expanding substance strengthens long and short time memory if used wisely and in moderation.

It kinda frustrates me if I bring up details about good memories and friends can't seem to remember anything from it. Just that it happened. Not even the exact year or details.

Also have a thing for people's details during years or times, most of them find it freaky that I still know some details about them from many years ago which they had just told me back in days. Same with faces. Encountered many old schoolmates who I recognised. Even have complete settings or films as reminders from years and years ago. Sometimes I even ask myself why I know such irrelevant data.

Al psychedelics have pulled memories out of my inner memory which would have never came up unless I'd get linked external stimulation.

She didn't remind that she uses to smoke marijuana? Maybe you should say her to vaporize weed and to drink less red wine, i think that wine should be consumed 1 time a week, but, i'm not a scientist, that's only a suggestion... After reading the article, i deduce that marijuana is important to create new brain cells, and it's not bad for health as opposite as alcohol... So consume more marijuana and drink less alcohol for you memory i think ^^

It doesn't help if it has already startet.

alzheimers has a very strong genetic element. the same compounds that give you liver spots, freckle like spots on your hands, face etc, are forming plaques in the brain cells. the key to beating alzheimers is increasing the solubility of these metabolic by-products.
red wine compounds do this fairly well. Lycopenes, Resveratrol and other polyphenals in red wine and carotenes all mop up radicals, and efectively end the radical chain reactions that create the plaques. vitamin C, the only vitamin that isnt an amine, also halts these radical cascades most efficiently

cannabis probably helps prevent alzheimers by keeping your mind active as much as its anti inflamatory qualities. i know im rarely bored while stoned.
ive noticed when people who already have alzheimers smoke, they are less likely to become agitated. the same applies to a glass of wine. its importaint to keep someone with alzheimers occupied and active, with lots of memory triggers about ie. photographs calendars and clocks.

Everyone has plaques in their brain . Maybe the question is why do some people get so many . Maybe its not as i saw a TV program that showed brains with loads of plaques and some of them had had alzheimers and some not . = plaques doesnt have to mean alzheimers .

There was also a recent study that found a statistical conection between alzheimers and high voltage electric cables .

The wine bit is shit . The same old shit that it always was . Its not the wine its the grape juice = you dont have to become a junky and drink alcohol you can eat grapes or drink grape juice . ( I think its not just grape juice either , that there are other juices that contain those substances ) .

true, you can drink grape juice or eat capsules of red wine pigment. more expensive (capsules) but you get all the benefits and a higher dose.

the odd glass of red wine is ok. ethanol is only a bad drug in excess. theres nothing wrong with relaxing and lots of methods that help. the alcohol does block the absorbtion of thiamine though. thats not too good for the brain

personaly i think a life of boredom will give you alzheimers. inactivity and sitting in front of the tv, drinking wine or not. keeping your mind active is as importaint as keeping your muscles active. it could be something as simple as maintaining a high number of mitochondria in your cells and a slightly higher and more efficient metabolic rate.

it follows then that blueberries being extremely high in this class of compound would be most benficial. blueberries and blueberry
