Acid ego death vs. Shroom ego death - The Psychedelic Experience - Shroomery Message Board

These people get into a conversation, regarding the opposing "ego deaths" achieved from the psychedelics Psilocin and LSD. What I don't understand, is that some of these people make regards as an ego death as a sensation where they forget their name and past... I thought this was DEPERSONALIZATION, another effect often brought upon by psychedelics. I've always considered ego death to be that sensation... Almost impossible to put into words. When one relaxes completely, unmoving... That particular feeling as if your vision and things you see are becoming your body. Almost as if your body is enveloped into the earth. Am I confused?

'depersonalization' is s shrink term. Psychiatry push a myth that we are machines, bags of chemical and electrical reactions---so it is very reductive, and bio-psychiatry doesn't accept spiritual experience.

What is the 'ego' but the sense of your image of yourself? Every time we go to sleep at night we let go of that image don't we, and we dram, and go into dreamless states also. When we have psychedelic experience we can also have these experiences in very powerful ways where what we thought we were --the image we have of ourselves and of the world 'die' and we are reborn. This is real, and sacred experience, so you are not confused ;-)

I approve your "definitions". During a depersonalization, you don't know who/what you are, but you still feel that you exist as something different from the rest of the world. Ego death is when you know, better than any time before, who you are : everything.

well from some perspective it is certainly depersonalization, but from another perspective not.. hmm and maybe a lack of perspective is also some sort of perspective, at least from a certain perspective lol... :-)

hmm well i think it is simply futile to attempt to describe the indescribable, because you can only do that wrong. it's only logical...
ego-death simply means that the part of you dies which you perceive as yourself and as real, yet it is neither yourself nor real..
and it implies that it is highly subjective and psychological... like how we perceive time and how time is an illusion etc etc...

i am sure it's logical that a different ego-death or perception of it would be experienced if a different substance/tool is the base for
that experience and perception...maybe it could be said that the way the ego dissolves in the experience makes the difference, but hmm sometimes it may also seem as if the ego is rather crushed or burns up or so. it's fascinating lol!!
to me shrooms have a more raw natural feeling and LSD sort of a more mental reflected feeling or so... hard to describe lol..

peace
