Hi everyone.

I am in undesirable situation for a shroom cultivator. I had everything prepared for my 98% colonized cakes to be put into the fruiting chamber. My helper who would contribute with safe, unsuspected and well conditioned place for growing, suddenly for no specific reason became paranoid and doesnt want to do anything with cultivation anymore.I havent yet found alternative place for growing (everything i thougt of had a lack of something; low air exchange, probability of not enough humidity etcetera).I have a perfect fruiting chamber (big, plastic, drilled with holes for air exchange, aquarium like box) but is little to big to be hidden in a small/medium sized appartement with my conservative, old school brought up parents. So if anyone has experience with indoor hidden fruiting chambers, please spread the word. But what i actualy wanted to ask is- how long can a fully colonised cake stay in a jar- and if can stay longer -under what conditions? Thanks in advance.

hi

I've started cultivating shrooms indoor this winter. It has been successful until I got a cobweb contamination during the last flushes...
As I still live with my mother, I've hidden my culture and except from a few moments of stress when I let my fruiting chamber in my bedroom to allow the shrooms to get some natural light, it has been quite easy to handle the culture without getting discovered.
My fruiting chamber consists in a plastic box that can be easily hidden under or behind large pieces of furnitures. I also have a pleurotus culture and thus it acts as a decoy :)

As for the fully colonisated jars, I don't know how much time you can keep them but I believe you can place them in a cool place, it will slow the growing process of the shrooms.

Hello again,

I think i have figured out what to do. I am going to make those poor mans terrariums. I have 3l plastic boxes/bottles, but i dont have any perlite. I have found some teks that suggest wet paper towels as a substitute (i believe that towels can produce enough humidity, in a small terrarium, if constantly being wet and bottles watersprayed). I know that paper towels present high possibility of contamination, but i dont know any other practical obtion. If i cut the bottles twice (one time for watering, faning and second for towel changing) in the way that i could fastly and safly exchange wet paper towels i think i would decrease the possibility of contaminations, wouldnt i? The second thing is the closet. I have a table lamp, which i attend to use as a light source in the closet, where my cakes will be hidden. I would appriciate very very much if anyone could comment, advice above mentioned or share some experience.
Thanks
Cosmic

As for the wet paper towel, to reduce contamination risk you can replace it with "clay pellets" (don't know how to say that in English and we say "billes d'argile" in French) or cat litter.

You mean like the ones little balls for plants used for the roots to keep water? I have does. But does the water evaporate in needed speed/constant?

Clay balls can keep a good amount of water thus letting it evaporate quite slowly.

Just asking about it in other topic
