So I just saw a bunch of talks on www.ted.com about consciousness, the brain and how our mind works and felt like sharing.

What I particularly liked about this talk is how at the end, they show how they are translating vision into sound and vice-versa, which is abit what some psychedelics like LSD actually do. And maybe this is why we feel that psychedelics help us in understanding ourselves better, because they help identify "context" about our environment and surroundings (both mental and physical) by translating it, and showing it to us in a different way.

All I can say is I hope I will see the day when this kind of research matures and brings forward some practical conclusions, because let's face it... who doesn't want to know exactly how our brain works??

thanks for sharing, will definitely watch these later

You're almost exactly hitting on what lsd and psychadelics do. Besides the brain abondoning historical perspectives on things, like that shown in the video, i.e. using things in the best statistical way - LSD and other pyschoactives break down a barrier where you brain leaves OUT alot of information - psychological filtering.

Under lsd and psilocybin especially you become hyper aware (with the right dosage) of alot of things that your brain will almmost consistently tune out for your entire life, had you never taken LSD or Psilo.

I remember this especially with looking at ripples on a lake. My sober mind sees waves, my mind on mushrooms sees the entire lake contained in a wave.

The first video was pretty interesting though, although most of the illusions he did were all the same.

adrian, I'm pretty sure you can download the videos. Maybe not the best solution.. but surely better than nothing at all ;p

There is a "download" button under each video's frame.

Let me know if that works..

Cheers.

wow that last guy was really amazing

ocho, thank you it does work! i assumed that they'd just download in flv... mp4 for the win! i will definitely not watch these later, and ill let you know what i think of them. im kinda pissed that i didn't see the email notification on this thread till now though
