a (new?) bong idea ?

i've been with a thought in my mind the last couple of weeks: i've must buy a bong. don't know why, but i miss the cool smoke, since i am far more used to smoking joints. then, a week ago, i remembered: but i've always made my bongs! let's make one. then, i remembered again: when i smoked, i used no bowl, i used a joint to burn the MJ (it is stupid, but i was 14 or 15, and i was very happy for just smoking it!). then, i investigated the web for bowls. what makes a good bowl ? i found many nice ideas, but all of them included metal. i was attracted to the trumpet mouthpiece, since i sometimes play the instrument. but i was not using an expensive mouthpiece to make a bong. then, it would get expensive and the goal was to make an inexpensive one!
my thoughts come in long, long waves...i must think of something a week until the solution comes.
my solution for making an incredible fresh bong:

bowl

a top of a carrot when cut with some craft makes a great, great bowl. the smoke gets a good taste and just this makes my day.i guess an apple or any other nice fruit would make the smoke more or less interesting.

stem

a cane. it doesn't take much to make a nice stem out of a cane. no plastic pens (bic is my favourite, but i get affraid of the plastic).if it doesn't fit well into the bowl, you could force it, since the carrot is soft and the cane will make it's own hole.

chamber

guess that with ice water, plastic is good enough. the smoke gets cool and will not melt any plastic. but i was aiming at freshness, so i used a pineapple. it took quite long until the pineapple was ready, and when it was, i filled it with ice, ice water, and took a small hit of MJ. the smoke was soft and pleased me. i couldn't say that it tasted like a tutti-frutti yoghurt, but it was at light-years from joint smoke. unfortunately i don't have a camera to show you. perhaps if i come across one, i will take some pics for sure.

what bugs me the most is that everything has been created, and probably this bong has been too. and i must be making a fool of myself to be happy about rediscovering fire ?

anyway, now i just get one thing missing: the nice hat that tourists have in hotels with nice swimming pools and baby-blue beaches with nice girls at the caribbean!

i almost forgot: if you can't cut the carrot too thin, you can use a filter made of tobbacco so the MJ, or SD, or whatever, so it won't get flushed into the water.

Rediscover fire, it will be the most amazing fire you ever saw. To you it is a discovery, and it created the mindset for inventions. The mindset is more valauble than the actual discovery/invention.

I once saw a apple with a joint in it.

You just poke 2 wholes in de apple one at the on end and the other well you guessed it

many times i did the joint INSIDE the apple. i made a nice cone, made the joint in there, and poked a small hole on the other side (where the cone makes an angle). i lighted it, and smoked it. many times, while i was "discovering" cannabis. i find the joint smoke harsh in an apple.

when i lived in Florence my economy was strictly controlled so i couldn't buy a bong (and if only i thought of using an apple!!!) so i smade one by myself this is how i made it

I took a piece of wood and carved it with my swiss army knife to make the bowl
it wasn't bad as bowl but it had a strange shape (I used tobacco as the filter as it was suggested in a previous reply) i managed to get a metal tube the with of a straw to fit in the bowl and then sealed it with the welder to the bowl
i took a plastic bottle a 1/2 litre one, to make the chamber
i stuck a hole with a sigarette 1 inch from the top then another 2inches from the bottom so i could fit the stem into it and placed it so that the stem entered the bottle and touched the bottom of the bottle from the inside.
i taped it with docktape so that it would not leak or move (that took a while)
I filled 2/3 of the bottle with icecold water
held the top hole shut
lit the bowl
sucked ...and it was a pleasure to see the smoke bubble up from the water towards my mouth.....then i let the top hole open...and had the first hit from my homemade bong....

the bottle of soda to make the chamber.... 1euro
drink the soda and then wash the bottle.... 0 euro
piece of wood stolen from the wares store.... 0 euro
Metal "straw" gotten from your friend who is a mechanic.... 0euro
tape bought at the supermarket.... 8 euro
cigarette used to make holes in the bottle.... 15 euro payed by the dude you stopped on the street to ask him a sigarette
ice water from the sink (in winter).... 0euro cause you live with granma
1 g MJ.... 6 euro
tobacco used for filter....0 euro i recycled it from the cigarette
first hit from your home made bong....priceless

wow I cant say ive ever heard of using a carrot ive made apple pipes before actually my friends and I are a bit of coinesseurs at making smoking paraphanelia. pipes, bongs, buckets, lungs just give us a bottle and a swiss army knife and we'll make whatever your heart desires lol even if we have a glass pipe or bong we like to sometimes jsut make something it adds to the anticipation and theres nothing quite like taking the first hit from a pipe you just made and having the satisfaction of knowing you created this smoking utensil
